I've been wondering about this. Any stats on serious accident/death comparing solo skiers to those in groups? Personally this seems one of the biggest risks on the slopes.
Wow, this is interesting. It's the same argument as air bags and avalungs in my opinion. At an applied but exceptionally rare occasion they may be of use, but 99.99999% of times simply useless and expensive. Even another gadget to give people confidence they don't deserve to act upon.

I am actually considering an Avalung after this weekends snowboarding, only because I found myself traversing to a closed and unpisted black run in Engelberg with a level 3 avalanch warning in place and loving it so much I did it again. There was a 10ft wall of snow cut into the traverse and evidence of 3 slides above. I understood the risk and took it, but had I an extra margin of safety I'd have used it. Difference here is that is a preventative measure not a corrective one. Correction depends on reaction, and that is the point of the OP. I don't think there is enough time in most cases. If there is, skill is likely a better option. For those without skill, education is the far better option.
If at all possible avoid the A8 between Karlsruhe and Munich past Stuttgart any time that humans may actually exist. It's a pigging nightmire.
Easter 2011....will it be a problem?

Go Glacier.

High resorts are great at that time of year I find. Ok, runs to resort may be dodgy but any of the following will afford good sliding.

Saas Fee
Zermatt
Hintertux
Val d'Isere
Tignes

1st week of May is my favorite snoboarding week!!

Have a good one, and don't forget to call into The Ski Lodge and say hi to Eric on my behalf )

Wengen trip?

need to update blog, but the long and short of it was I missed all but 2 skiers due to the fact I strayed into a steep sided ravine with unconsolidated powder up to my armpits! Not very clever and took me 90 minutes to get out of it.

Bought all the kit for servicing my board at last.

Side Edge File with additional diamond file and oxide stone
Flat Iron
Wax
Plexiglass Scraper
pTex
Hard Bristled Brush
etc

Heading back to get a Base Edge Tool after my successful first attempt with the Side Edge variant.

Toying with buying a workbench also.

Just need to know what the hell to do with it all?

Any handy tips for an evening of self service? Clean suggestions only ;)
