Mixed ability skiing trip to Europe
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 5 Replies
UCPA sounds like a good plan but as someone said above it is high season in France (unless at the start of Feb). Don't know if Chamonix is a great resort for mixed abilities - generally not seen as a good beginners resort and more seen as an off-piste paradise (**** but please note I have never been *****)
I would second early March on account of the weather being better than the other time I would go which would be mid-late January. Avoid the mega-resorts to reduce costs. Les Deux Alpes is good for a mixed group, but bit of a marmite resort. We loved Risoul - not many black runs but plenty of hooning around on reds to be done. Risoul would be good for beginners. Don't know if there are any catered chalets there, though.

From what I've heard, take a credit card with a very, very large credit limit

The higher the better at that time of the year, or somewhere low where you can access skiing at altitude.
New year snow resort first week in January

I would have thought that the first week of January should be fairly quiet (I assume that you mean the first week proper, not the week with New Year's Day) and therefore you could leave booking somewhere to the last minute to get the best snow (someone please let me know if I'm wrong). Morzine is fairly low and I know that the season started late there last year (lots of pictures of green fields at Christmas).

For once I will agree with Ranchero_1979 :). When staying at Club Med at LDA I would rather bin down than take the crowded green run of Doooooooom or the steep black Valentin (I know that there is now a blue and red at the other "end" of the resort).

Hi Lizzie. I haven't skied in Scotland myself, but I get the impression that the skiing is very much in the hands of the weather - if it's nice weather, then it can be a wonderful place to ski. If the wind gets up, the resorts will be closed. I hope that someone will be along with a more useful answer shortly.
