Thanks for the info. Will check out Ski Warehouse especially if the full service is a stone grind.

Trencher wrote:This really depends on what you mean by serviced. How much wear and tear do have on the skis ?

Serviced could mean

sharpen edges, and wax (which is probably all you need)

Belt grind (cheap with low tech structure), edges, and wax

Stone grind (better quality base finish with good general purpose structure)

Race tune (special structure for conditions, radial base bevel, and polished edges)

The waxing process varies for these options too.

So it's important to know what you are getting for your money. Unless your skis bases are worn and have lost the structure, you may only need wax and edge tune. That should be reasonably cheap. Ask questions about the edge bevel angles, and the waxes used, to make sure you are getting value for money.

Thank you for the reply, never really did know what I was getting for my money or what to ask for.
I have a pair of Volkl Vertigo Motions which must be at least five if not six seasons old & have been used for approximately 14 weeks skiing. Going off the information you provided a stone grind would probably be best. Reckon this will be the last season I get out of these skis, would definitely buy Volkl again.

I do wear a pair of warm up pants, i don't feel the cold but I don't fancy going commando

Warm up pants. What are they? Are they a bit like pull up pants?

I think they help stop shrinkage

This year will be the first year we haven't taken our children out of school & that's only because we are treating ourselves to a one off XMAS holiday. As a family we nearly always try & go out in January as it is cheaper than half term. We just throw a sickie for the kids & like Ian said earlier its educational.

If you live near Nottingham, I can recommend someone very good.

I live in the back of beyond in rainy old Cumbria. :XD:

Doesn't seem to be too much difference in the price between uk & resort then, just the question over the ski service standard to ponder over. I should have probably got them serviced at the end of last season in resort really.

Getting fit for skiing

The fastest way to get fit is probably running, which if you can do off road the terrain changes will help aid balance & co-ordination. Then build in some cycling for power & endurance, & last but not least go swimming. Swimming front crawl is brillant for the core muscles & helps prevent back injuries. That is what I do anyway. :-)If I was you I would be careful not to over do it & pick up an injury before your holiday, because of the time constraints you would probably be better off doing some work at home on one of those ergo bikes or nordic ski style walking machines.
Good choice of resort for your hols, Scheffau is excellent. Enjoy.
