Pre Christmas is always a bit of a gamble.
Go high. A resort with a glacier will have some skiing even if the snow hasn't really arrived. Snow making on runs back to resort is a big plus. Just how far before Christmas were you thinking off? |

Does anyone know of any other countries as good as Switzerland for skiing?

France?
Austria? Italy? USA? Canada? Every country has something to offer. I am stuck on France for a variety of reasons. But have skied in Switzerland (Verbier and Grindelwald) and Austria, even Spain. Personally I do not believe any country has the monopoly on great skiing, they all have their plus points. If you want to be adventurous and go elsewhere maybe a good start would be to work out what in a skiing holiday makes Switzerland so great for you? |

I have planned my first mornings skiing!
Coffee stop, return to resort .... I even found myself visualising skiing down the runs - madness, things like this should be banned  |

OK, first, right up front and with complete honesty ...
I am a sad old g**. A PhD in being obsessed with skiing. Having only 150 days to wait before going to Serre Chevalier for the first time I have been preparing! And found this wonderful thing on the resort website. Aerial views of the slopes that you can move around and zoom in and out and all sort. They call it view from the sky - here - http://www.serre-chevalier.com/-english- Anyone seen anything similar for other resorts? |

Waiting is nearly over s-a-h !! I know what it is like when you have to miss the fix due to force majeur(how do you spell that?). Was really worried this summer that I would have a ski free season, but luckily am now going. Have a look at the links to ski set on here (left, Save on Ski Hire) to start to compare prices. Do check which shop(s) are closest to your accomodation, nothing worse than saving £10 and walking a mile! If you are with a tour operator - check what they are quoting, and what shop/quality of skis are on offer. Then work out what works best for you. Someone will be along on here with personal knowledge of shops in Oberau soon I'm sure. |
