Cheers everyone :) There was no real reason behind Zermatt other than it's the first chance I had to look!! She does not want a solitaire, but something unusual which opens up options. She also does not like me spending too much so we have to reach an agreement. Very tricky business.
On the spending money front I got 2 new snow related purchases this weekend :) A fantastic The North Face, Summit Series Apex soft shell jacket, in red of course, perfect for late spring and summer sliding. I also got a pair of Tag Heuer sunglasses which have no nechanical arms, rather rubberised-plastic covered memory metal extensions of the frame, the bloke said they were virtually unbreakable. This I can confirm after walloping a chewed up section of Red 42 with my face!! Resulting in a snow burn above my left eye and a cut across my nose :) |

The blog is devoid of my last 4 slidings, can't find the time!! Whilst the rest of the UK was in chaos at New Year, Scotlands West Coast was stunning!!

Any Friday in the month, anywhere that has snow. You need to ski Engelberg mate, you'll love it. Not sure how long the season goes on there mind.

johnski, black 17 is a weird run, not too steep till the bottom, but a very challenging camber!! I hear that the Hari Kari is no harder than black 17. In fact the website tells you so.

getjim, if you wanna early weekend on a glacier, say October, gimme a shout. You can get good skiing from October to May if you are prepared to get up early enough ;)

Going by experience only...
Saas Fe Zermatt Hintertux all good for varying reasons. In April I'd do Zermatt and include Cervinia as suggested, outlook is promising. Into May I'd go for the Tux everytime would it not be 8 hours on the train. Whatever you do, enjoy!! |

was back in Zermatt, in Grampis now in fact. These bad boys were wider than the pair on the left of your picture  no idea why either, it's late March and it's Zermatt, it's not a big powder resort. Engelberg is where you need to take those whippersnappers!! Up for a May trip to a glacier? |

getjim....you walked from the top of the Eggalm to Vorderlanersbach??? Bloody hell mate that must be harder than skiing it ;) it's one of the most beautiful runs I can think of also. Glad you enjoyed it, I miss the satisfaction of breaking a barrier, it was black and White when a red was a challenge, then a black, then an itinerary etc. Now it's less tangible but still huge fun. I ran the the black from Furgg to Furi in Zermatt this morning about 9.30am as Italy was shut, and overtook everyone on it, a mix of improvement, perfect piste and abandon. Did it again 90 minutes later to a much lesser effect. I get frustrated when tired, guess I have to work on my fitness and leg strength now. Not as much fun as setting a target of your first red or black, but a target nonetheless.
Congrats, the big M is great, I'll be there in 10 days :) |
