Snap! I've been thinking of starting a thread like that as some of the decisions on run grading that I've seen are a bit of a mystery to be fair! I wondered if I was the only one baffled sometimes. Glad to find it's not just me.
Ski boots - hand baggage or checked in
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 77 Replies
As with Crispyapplepie we've taken our own boots three times and there's never been a problem taking them as hand luggage. When possible we check them in as hold baggage (in their own bags not our suitcases), but this decision has been based more on whether we have any baggage allowance left to do that, or whether the check in person (as in the last time) was prepared to let us go even further over our excess to check them in. It's incredibly difficult (for me anyway) to get the boots in the suitcases because mine weigh in at around 5kg, and MrEvs around 6-7 kg. Add that to the approximate weight of your empty case to start off with which is around 5kg, and before you've even put in a pair of knickers you've used up about 50% of your hold baggage allowance.

N.B. I know that many are reluctant to check in boot bags on their own for fear of them getting wrecked etc but that's a different issue I think.
Waterproofing Products

Yup, I'm currently awaiting delivery of a bumper 5L bottle of Nikwax Polar Proof. It's supposed to be specifically for ski gear. Re-waterproofs what needs to be waterproof, and is supposed to "revive breathability" too. Used it last year and the stuff was like new. MrEvs wouldn't let me wash his jacket in it and once we'd been caught in a blizzard etc it weighed an absolute ton when wet. He refused to believe there was a connection

By the way for the avoidance of doubt I have no connection with Nikwax whatsoever.

Dan940 wrote:EmmaEvs, yes I am still talking about Niederau. I went out this morning skiing, the main piste doesn't have any brown patches, it's just the "extra parts" to the piste that are turning brown at the moment.

As soon as the temperatures drops, skiing will become better once again.

Could they be turning brown because of the dogs droppings.

 I hope not - hate to see the dog that doodoos patches like that!
Good news then  Glad you're getting some fun in! Roll on the cold snap.
Skiing with a 1-year old

HughieTwingo - why not! In Austria they're on skis as soon as they can walk. 8)
Dan940 are you still talking about Niederau? Good news if you are. Auhofcam seems to be stuck, not showing up to date scenes at the moment. The lower slopes and Tennlanden are looking very sorry for themselves  I guess everybody's playing dodge the dark spot at the moment. Still, as long as there's enough to strap a pair of planks to your feet then it's skiing!
BREAKING NEWS... BREAKING NEWS... BREAKING NEWS...

Rumour has it that this is a photo of the Bobble Bandit leader, seen here cruelly taunting a previous victim.
