Wait a minute! Did I wake up in an alternative universe? Wickers, Austria?? There's two words I never thought I'd hear in the same sentence

If you do go down the lederhosen route, be sure to post a pic for us all to have a good laugh

Obergurgl any tips

Don't forget if you run out of variety in Obergurgl, you've got Hochgurgl on the doorstep. I think there's a free bus, but there's definitely a gondola link across. We loved Obergurgl last year but as timid peeps we didn't ski the half of it. Would definitely go back.

CLT I think BKK=Bad Kleinkirchheim. I think it's quite unhelpful to use abbreviations, rather than the full name of places. I for one am still learning about ski resorts and don't always recognise the short-hand names that people use.

We had a really positive experience with Nouvelle Dimension ski school in Les Carroz, which is in the Grand Massif area of France. Nice, pretty resort, which links to Flaine. Our instructor was called Isabelle and she was fantastic. We ended up having some 2-hour private lessons, in which she taught the three of us (me, husband and 9-year old daughter) all together for the first hour, then daughter on her own for the second hour. Daughter, who skis better than us at intermediate level, was taken all around the area by Isabelle, who passed the time on the chair lifts by telling her all about the local area, wildlife etc.

I have to say that regarding children's ski schools, we have had a very mixed bag over the past 5 years, including one very poor experience in Austria, in a resort and ski school which I won't name, but has been highly recommended by other people on this forum. It just goes to show that what suits one person may not suit another. It can very much depend on an individual instructor. We have solved that by taking private lessons, but not everyone can do that.

All I can add is that in the event that you ended up in a group that you weren't happy with, you could always ask to be moved to a different one.

Does anyone know what Echaillon means?

The only word I could find in my Petit Robert French dictionary was echallion, which is a type of onion. I also looked online, to no avail. Sorry

Lift Pass Prices

Interesting. Yes, last year we paid about 500 quid total for 2 adults and 1 child local lift passes in Obergurgl.
For me, it would also be interesting to see a table showing the number of free lifts in each resort for beginners, as we always need a couple of days to find our ski legs.
Thanks for the hard work Andy.

No, but I will write a frank and unbiased review next spring when I've tried them out.
