First day on skis. At the bottom of the learners' slope was a cafe with outdoor tables. I, being unable to stop or turn, skied straight through the tables and chairs, knocking them aside like skittles.

Day 2. I'm quite well-built, but our instructor was probably 8 stone ringing wet. I was dreading the moment when I might fall over and he would have to heave me upright. I was right to be concerned. When the moment came, I succeeded in pulling him down on top of me, much to the hilarity of the rest of the group.

Be careful with smart phone abroad. There's been loads of stories in the news this week about people taking smart phones abroad and getting huge phone bills afterwards. Problem is that they tend to do software updates or update the apps, without telling you, so unknown to you they're connecting to the internet. Next thing you know you get a bill for hundreds of pounds.

Basically, you had a contract with the retailer - you gave them money in return for goods. Until you receive the goods, the retailer has not fulfilled his side of the contract. You should pursue the retailer for either a refund or replacement goods. It is up to the retailer to pursue the courier. If the courier left the delivery with someone else, that's their problem not yours. Even though you gave them permission to leave the delivery with someone else, it's still not your responsibility. After all, you cannot vouch for the reliability of your neighbours.

Don't give up. A decent retailer would put customer care first.

Somebody on here was talking about Corvara, which is in the Dolomites, but I believe the snowfall can be erratic. I've never been, but it's somewhere I've been looking at for this year. Just waiting to see where the snow falls!
My point is that teaching plowing will cause later issues to intermediate level skiers, Just watch this winter as an intermediate skier approaches a "stressful" section ! Back to snow plow !!!!

I think you have a point Pavel. Speaking as the worst ski student EVER (4 weeks and still haven't got it!) I find myself refusing to completely let go of the old plow, like a drowning person clutching a straw. Especially if I get out of my comfort zone. But, I am determined to move on

I will get it eventually!

Happy birthday Wickers. You just managed to miss having the same one as my little 'un who turns 11 tomorrow.
