That guy doing the snow plough on top of 'brown trousers' ridge, don't look too happy.

How many people put themselves into place far beyond their abilities??

Bad news for them and also bad news for the rest of the group!!!!
Why so low in Austria??

Hey - depending on a year end bonus - stranger things have happened.

I've done France twice a season for the past 5 years. I know what to expect in terms of accommodation / transfers / food / snow / skiing etc.

But I do 'prize' my winter trips and therefore don't want to see too much grass under my skis - if you know what I mean.

As I have said earlier... I really fancy a visit to Austria and believe that a good resort is only made better with good snow.

If travelling Jan / early Feb (not UK school hols). Flying to Munich.

What are the personal experiences of J2skiers of reasonably close resorts / intermediate ability / skiers (rather than boarders) / and access to a few drink establishments.

First thoughts are Soll / Mayerhofen?? :?:

Is the Ski Welt are linked like the Portes de Soleui is (sorry for spelling)??

Am I likely to get 4 night accommodation at this time of year in Austria??

For the record I kinda agree with previous comments about snow in the street make the whole winter holiday experience better - but I'd rather have it on he MOUNTAIN!!! :)

I've been hunting around for the annual long weekend break I arrange of a party of 6/7.

For the past 7 years we've visited France - mainly for the ski in/out and the high resorts.

But this year the cost of beer / food / lift pass was a nightmare.

Also I fancy a change and as I am the organiser - I chose the resort.

Been to Italy / Switerland already - so Austria is next.

There are some good priced flights from Stansted (15miles from me) to Munich. Therefore I have been looking at some of the Autrian resorts close by.

They all some low altitude. 2500m highest lifts etc etc. Does this really effect the snow coverage?? Do you need to catch a bus to move from one part of an area to the next?? What is the chance of ski in/out in such a resort.

I know there are lots of J2Skiers that love their Austrian resorts. I want to too. But I also want convience and great snow (weather permitting).

You're comments please.

Thanks.

PS - My 8 yr old could ski aswell as some of those on TV right now!!!!!
Never been skiing. Help.

Hi Heavy - a ski trip as atag trip is great fun. I organised one some 7 years ago and we have had a 'lads' trip off the back of it ever since.....

Avoriaz / Morzine / Les Gets is certainly a shortish transfer from Geneva. Try http://www.diy-hols.com/ for a good deal. I only assume you can get to Geneva from the airports you mentioned.

I'd suggest Morzine as a better 'stag party' resort for evening entertainment if you can find accommodation in the town. But finding a taxi late a night / drunk and cold is a nightmare (been there!!!!) So Avoriaz has the advantage of being able to walk everywhere. The nightlife is pretty good too.

I think the skiing is better up Avoriaz too.

You may find it hard to find less than 7 nights accommodation in FEB. But in JAN is easier. Perhaps bring the trip forward a week or two. P&V have a number of 'basic' appartment/flat that they offen rent out for less than a week. I've stayed twice in Avoriaz for 4 nights each time - Jan and later March.

Remember though - the beer is expensive in Euroland at present......

What about SCOTLAND   !!!!

Have fun

When are you off

11 hours to go.

La Plagne.

Me and my 8 yr old.

The new 'lads' holiday!!!!
I've stayed in both Morzine and Avoriaz. And personally when I go on a ski holiday - that just what I want to do - SKI. Therefore given the height / ski in/out and how quickly your in the thick of it - Avoriaz wins my vote.

If you have to make your way up from Morzine each morning - 45 mins wasted at both ends of the day.

Also - from Avoriaz, you're not far from Switzerland too.
