Queues for Lifts??

Dave Mac wrote:So there is a roped off line on the right of the Niederau Gondols queue, that is specifically for ski school classes. Quite sensible.

A lady instructor, red school, is shepherding her 10 year olds up the steps. She was already aware that young Donald, had made a beeline for the loo.

AS the class reached the top of the steps, Donald appeared, at the bottom, and behind the fence. Lady instructor shouts, "Come on Donald, over the fence". Donald climbs the fence, but is faced with a wall of people, and he is only 4 ft high.

"Up you come Donald!", I shouted, and gave Mel a nudge. "Straight through Donald", shouts Mel. Everyone else takes it up. "C'mon Donald", "Get through Donald", et al.

It was like that scene at the railway station in Crocodile Dundee, "She says she loves you", and the crowd parts, and in our case, allowing Donald a straight route through.

What nice people we are in Niederau.

We are nice too! We always make way for the ski schools but the kids on this occasion were not ski school, they were with their families and they were elbowing and barging their way through the queues. It took me until the third or fourth day of politely putting up with it until I put my foot down...or should I say 'pole' down. :-)

Hi,

I remember too, the reviews not being too good. When we stayed there it was warm and very clean. The room was small but very comfortable with mountain view. Breakfast was good (a lot to choose from) and the people were very friendly. There's no bar or anything like that but the location was brilliant in terms of access to slopes. 5 minutes walk to the center for all the bars and restaurants. It's not a luxury hotel but it is a perfectly good place to stay cheaply in St Anton.

I will emphasise again how good it is for access to slopes. For me that is my main priority and hotel facilities are of little importance as it is only the place where I sleep and bath/shower.

PS I am quite obsessive when it comes to using a bath that doesn't belong to me. I quite often refuse and opt for the shower. I do remember being quite happy to use the bath when there. So it must have been clean and new!

Can't remember any cons.

I stayed in St Anton a couple of years ago and The place I found was very cheap compared to everywhere else in St Anton. It was called the Hotel Pepi Gabl and it was right next to the ski depot (in fact there were connecting doors to the hotel). The ski depot was ski in/out. (Ski into depot...park skis and boots...put shoes on walk through a door to the hotel)

I don't know what the prices are now but I definitely remember having to book the cheapest I could find and that was it!

In St Anton a couple of years ago a group of young 8-10 year olds blatently started barging there way past me in the lift queue. Having put up with this behaviour all morning I decided enough was enough and tried to stop the next one by planting my poles at his ski tips. He moved back quite quickly, but to my suprise he preceded to try another route...through my legs! I couldn't believe it. I put on my scariest teachers voice and said 'no' so loudly that he got the message. So did his dad who was directly behind him and didn't seem to have a problem with his sons behaviour!

I have read somewhere recently that there are ski lockers by the gondola. I think it was a thread on a forum and I think they were discussing how much it cost's. i'll try to remember where I saw it.

Thread on lockers at soldeuonline.com - chit chat. Apparently they are 12 euro's a day.
