I dont know anyone who has skied Solden. It is somewhere, along with Ischgl and Schladming, I would really like to try.

Friends of mine skied Solden last season & have raved on about the place ever since. Not so many British skiers go there & you don't see the place advertised much in the TO brochures.

My wife has the K2 One Luv skis which are 153cm but actually measure 157cm long, this is because K2 measurements are of the base which will be in contact with the snow & not the overall length of the ski. True Luv & One Luv 153 skis are probably well suited to someone who is 5 4" but will just seem big. Hope this helps.

driving to austria - any advice please?

Hello Benny
If you choose the Stuttgart, Munich, Innsbruck route which would be my choice, expect some delays on the A99 Munich ring road especially if you hit it around tea time the Friday before Christmas, factor this into your travel schedule. I shall be on the same section of road at the same time heading for Austria.

3 & 11, don't quite know how to break the news to the eldest. Think I will leave that one for Mrs Finn.

Tell them that Santa does Austria on Christmas Eve because he needs to leave time to get to the UK on Christmas day.

That would work Tino, I could say he delivers early to Austria so everyone can go skiing on Christmas day.

Picked up a pair of Sinner Sigo Rebel goggles from TKMaxx today for £15, fit brilliantly with the Uvex freeride helmet.

Really looking forward to going away at Christmas for the first time, bringing selected pressies with us for the kids but space is not really a problem as will be driving.
Have been told that in Austria Xmas eve is the big celibration & this is when presents are exchanged. Going to be weird for the kids if this is the case as father Christmas is still the real deal in our house, how do you expain that one?should still be really special though. Enjoying not having the hassle of planning for Christmas & leaving all down to someone else to do.
On our return home we will celebrate Xmas with the outlaws.

Going away for only two weeks this year, in those two weeks I planning to have one day ski touring which should improve offpiste skills & am also planning to learn how to telemark.
As always Looking forward to skiing with OH & our kids.
