Filzmoos is nice, but the village is very small. We went there as 2nd year beginners and therefore didn't explore all the pistes, just beginner areas - which aren't large. From my extensive reading of this forum  I think there are probably loads of resorts elsewhere that are more suitable for beginners and families, and might be cheaper too. Would you consider France or Italy? I understand Alpe d'Huez (Fr) and Cervinia (It) are both very good beginner resorts, although I haven't been there myself. Also, would you consider self-catering? French resorts have lots of self-catering apartments - but bear in mind the UK half term hols will overlap with the French ones to some extent.
I'm not sure DIY holidays can compete with tour ops' prices, unless you are prepared to drive down and do self-catering. There is a whole other thread somewhere on this forum discussing DIY options, with mixed opinions about prices. |

LOL
Oh yeah toilets are always downstairs  And it's quite hard to 'crouch' if you're a laydee - the boots make your legs bend the wrong way or something. |

Salski - love those pictures!
Ally - miss your wibble a little bit. (sorry Admin  ) I love reading the comments on this forum. Can't wait to hear about Wickers experience in Austria (or Mordor as he likes to think of it!) |

Any recommendations for the cheapest transfer to Les Carroz from Geneva Airport?

I'm no expert, but I don't think 80 euros return per person sounds too bad? Geneva is easily an hour away from Les Carroz. I had a look at the Altibus website and they are quoting 80 euros return per adult. Maybe you already looked there. Good luck anyway.

I don't know about public transport, but when we went a couple of years back, our friends hired a car. They were 2 adults and a child. The advantage of having a car, if you are self-catering, is that you can stock up on food in the hypermarket in the valley, before you get to the ski town. Much cheaper. We got a taxi from the train station in Chambery which cost 30 Euros.
Allie (sorry it might have been Cluses, not Chambery - I can't remember) Also, check out the website for Altibus www.altibus.com |

We went to Obergurgl last March. It was very nice. Quite a small village with mostly upmarket hotels. We stayed in the Jenewein, which we loved. The Wurmkogel seems to be in Hochgurgl. Here is its website http://www.wurmkogel.com/en.html.
There is a link between Hochgurgl and Obergurgl, so you could go to Obergurgl if you get bored with Hochgurgl. I imagine the snow will be fine in Jan, as there was still plenty left in March. We had a week of blue skies. Both resorts are above the tree line, so might feel a tad bleak in bad weather? I'm sure you'll have a great time. We would certainly return. Allie |
