May I be so bold as to say this is a very dangerous statement, and incorrect.
Some countries will not permit you to drive WITHOUT winter tyres on all roads, so you really need to have them on all 4 wheels as a matter of course. But in extreme conditions, roads close to drivers who do not have snow chains, and with that in mind I would suggest you do not travel without chains. Chances are you will not need any, but saying it is unlikely you will need them as a result of having winter tyres is, frankly, wrong, as there is a good chance you might.

Absolutely correct Tony.
You won't get near the Tarentaise/Haute Tarentaise resorts without chains this weekend. You'll be stopped outside Moutiers, Aime, Bourg St Maurice by the police.
Snow forecast for both Chambery and Geneva over the weekend.
Winter has arrived!
Don't blame me
TheoBane "won" the snowdance competition - if you can't get to your resort this weekend blame him!

I used to have, actually it's still floating around somewhere in a bag, one of those neoprene face masks.
Keeps the face warm when it is truly horrible weather, but, I must admit, if/when it is like that now I tend to run back to the bar!
Far more sensible way of keeping warm

Anyone with half a brain !

There will be a fair few of these warnings going around over the next few days.
The snow plough drivers will have their work cut out to keep access open to many of the higher level resorts.
But, it's a pretty well rehersed routine and the police will be out in force "policing" the roads.
