Well, DB, he does phone me on a regular basis during the winter. I have to explain to him a lot of weather stuff, Geese and Bewick Swans arriving early, a bit about machine snow. I was very pleased this year to tell him just how good the winter is going to be. He expressed his usual gratitude..... Ian, follow back to the website, there is a choice of two cameras, boith dated today. I understand your further comments, Ian. In September 2000, I went walking in the Saalbach Hinterglemm Alp area. Beautiful sunshine for 3 days. Knee deep in snow for the remainder of the week. I don't take much notice of individual snowfalls. I do take notice of natural signs, and other general weather patterns. I hesitate to stick my neck out, but I have never felt as strongly about a coming winter. It isn't optimism. And if I'm wrong, we will all go to the pub, and I'll pay! :!: |

The Allstar does also Alpbachtal, west of Auffach. There is a lot of skiing to the south. However, from your location, I agree a pass the covers the length of the Inn valley, and beyond would be better for you. Also, you will be able to get greater use of the Snowcard than I will. My plans include for 5 weeks within the Allstar area, and probably a week or so elsewhere.

Looks like someones trekking up the Schatsberg. It is snowing there today. The Auhof webcam has been down for a while, they are awaiting a new internet connection.
You have definitely chosen the right year ~ I have it on pretty good authority, this is going to be one of the best winters, ever. |

Quite possibly, since Hofer is the Austrian Aldi company, operating autonomously. There are two other non-Aldi name variations, and the reason the name for the three companies was varied was to give regional identity. Slightly ironic since the Bavarians fought for Napoleon, although the Albrect family came from Essen. There are still strong patriotic pro-Hofer feelings in Tirol, and Sturmloders retain a presence in many villages. Bavarians, on the other hand, take a rather different view of Hofer, and I once had a "heated debate" with a Bavarian, in a hotel in the Highlands! |

I wasn't the least bit embarresed, Ally. Didn't have to pay for my beer at the bar!
Soll never felt the same afterwards, though. |

SwingBeep, Skiset and one or two others have been quite clever in the way they have gone about their business, in general, selecting good hire businesses to deal with, and offering volume that they would not ordinarily get. Thus, in most places, they both compete, and force competition.
The point I made, is to look past the 5%, 10%, or whatever %, look at the bottom line. Also, the situation I described was not just in St Anton. It was across the whole of the Arlberg and the Voralberg. ALLEGEDLY. |

This is what my friend emailed me about the Tirol Card: "Snow card: That is because I live in the Tirol so I get a special price ... you just need to get a paper from the town hall to do that with your appartment lease." Since you own your house there, you might be in a least as strong as position as a person that rents. I would prefer to get the Tirol pass, but I think we will get better value from the Allstar card, covers from Kaprun, Zellam Zee, Kitzbuhle, Schiwelt, Wildschoenau, Alpbach, plus all the nice small places between. Buy before Dec 4th though, to save 80 Euros.... |
