Do any of the hostesses ski?
Shame, it really is not that much further to drive to Austria, Italy or Switzerland. And if you miss France, considerably cheaper as the other motorways do not have the tolls.

Do not always take the distance as the reason for not doing it. If you use either google maps or via michelin to plan the route, you will often find that the slightly longer journey in terms of miles, is just as quick to drive due to better roads.
Guys, I would STRONGLY recommend that you DO NOT post your email address in an open forum, that is asking for trouble.

If you wish to swap information with a fellow member of the site, and you are happy with the risks, then I would suggest you do so via the PM system.
Six year old skier sued in Austria

Interesting point of note here. This story has appeared in many places and has attracted quite a few comments. If you read the story, it makes it quite clear that the adult has suffered injuries sufficient to bring her skiing ability to an end (although that would have to be seen after any settlement).

Now what I find interesting, is that so far I have not seen a single comment of sympathy to the injured adult.

I guess it is very easy for us to jump to conclusions, so I for one would like to hope that a recovery is possible to the injured party, whoever was/is responsible for the accident. Nobody deserves to have the ability to do something they like taken away from them, even if they are the party at fault.
Perhaps they need to speak to a certain Mr Ecclestone and find an alternate venue. Somewhere that does not even know what snow is!

Crazy :( Perhaps the child should sue the adult for skiing into them from behind. I always held the belief that the responsibility is on the person who is uphill, and to pass with great care and distance where possible, especially people who are obviously learning.
We drove to Soll from Calais last season and the only incurred cost was the Austrian Vignette. Fairly straightforward route, Calais, Belgium (then depending on preferred route you can go through either Holland or Luxembourg as well), Germany and Austria. It took us about 10 hours from Calais, but we did hit some nasty traffic before Munich.

If you wanted to route in from further west, Memmingan in Germany is a nice little town, and would probably only leave a two hour drive to N. That's the only place I have stopped at (on route to Madonna Di Campiglio in Italy), so cannot really offer other suggestions.
Hi Neilausten, welcome to the forum.

Do you intend to stay in Varenna and commute daily? If so, your best bet is probably going to be Madesimo at about an hour drive away. However, I've not been there since I went with my school 40 years ago, so cannot really comment to what it is like these days.

If you intend to stay in the resort for a few days, then there are plenty to choose from within a few hours drive. Please let us know, as I am sure someone will be able to give you some decent pointers.
