Also consider whether you want a package holiday or want to organize your own. If the latter, then many more resorts come into play.

I'm not sure anyone said it was cheap. I used the phrase "cheaper than normal for France" and certainly is when you compare it to val, 3 valleys, and other popular ski areas.

Not sure if that's true - Ive never been to ADH in winter but the Where to Ski and Snowboard Resort price index has it at 100 - the same as Val d'Isere and Val Thorens (Meribel is 110 and Courchevel 120)

I still wet myself when I listen to his boarder cross commentary from the olympics though.

Roll on Sochi!

Finally watched it, now very much in the mood for a ski.

Does anyone else get as excited as me when the Ski Sunday music comes on? I just can't help myself.

It's one of those pieces of music that immediately transports you to a better place and time
all the best to Pavel - one of the good guys

Lucky you.

Can you not persuade her that wearing a dirndl (sp?) and yodeling "The hills are alive" would be just her thing Snapzzz???

.............in July 2013!

Two weeks in the Le Telemark apartments in Tignes Le Lacs. Mega cheap compared to the winter prices. I'm not assuming that we'll be able to ski but it would be a nice bonus. Primary aim is to do some mountain biking, canyoning etc etc and maybe have a crack at some climbing using the via ferrata (with guide!). We'll be getting the ferry so taking our car which should open up further opportunities. Definitely have a drive up to the Col d'Iseran.

Second ski holiday in the main season looking less likely unfortunately. Just really expensive as we are confined to school hols and we need to buy a new car soon as well. :(

At least we will be booking Xmas 2013 ski hol soon though.

No rest for the wicked in chez BB

BB I like your style and wish to subscribe to your newsletter!!!!

Serioulsy though Ive always fancied biking in the Alps as up on the lift and down on the bike sounds perfect 9mountain biking with only fun and no struggle!)

Only 4 more sleeps til VDI....
AllyG wrote:Hi Everyone,
Just to let you all know we are having a great time here in Tignes/Val d'Isere :)

There is plenty of snow, but it's a bit cold, and the visibility wasn't very good today, which is why some of us came in early.

4 of us were ski-ing with one of the Bonjour ski hosts and I could only manage by following Old Andy and watching to see when he hit a lump, or disappeared into a pile of deep snow. I don't like ski-ing in flat light as it makes me dizzy and confused, but it was fine when I was following him, and we went over to Val d'Isere and covered a fair bit of ground :)

It was lovely and sunny on Sunday so Old Andy, Catp and I went up the Grande Motte glacier and skied there for a bit. We never got to do the 9 restaurant pub crawl but we still had a lot of fun.

And yesterday I think all 17 of us were either in lessons or skied with the Bonjour hosts.

Some of us are hoping to learn how to use the avalanche equipment this evening with the ESF, so I'd better go ...

All sounds great - know what you mean about flat light too!

Keep the reports coming and will see you Sunday!
Welcome Sharky

The time of year that you want its not going to be "cheap" anywhere but you know that!

If budget isn't huge then Switzerland is certainly out and some parts of France too (the mega resorts are more expensive but probably a waste based upon the amount of skiing you want)

Flying from London gives you every option so I'd asy look at Austria and Italy first (Bulgaria not snow sure at any time and certainly not early season, Andorra not the ideal choice for families - generalizations I know).

Folgarida always gets good ink for this (never been myself so don't know) but there are lots of options. Do you perhaps have any German or Italian language skills between you that may point you in one direction more than another?
