Blue sky, white mountain tops and it is quite cold . Has the winter really started to arrive. THAT WOULD BE NICE! Might be a bit early to started getting excited, but it is nice to start thinking of all the good fun to be had again once the ...winter arrives.

Check out the webcams today. It looks very nice!

Some other useful stuff. I have been reading through the Impact multi activity Insurance details and comparing them to the Carte Neige ones. Has anyone else done this. What do people think.

I have asked for an English version of the Multi card details, will post a link if they send me one.

For anyone coming out by train or staying in Bourg St Maurice or would just like to try some better quality skis this winter check out Polaire Star Ski shop right by the bottom of the Funicular ticket office. You can also book online on the webpage.

In response to some questions. You can get to Bourg by train three ways. Direct from London on the Eurostar night train or day train. You can go via Paris on the Euro Star and then the TGV or overnight sleepr. There are also a few trains that change in Lille and then come direct to Bourg with the TGV.

Hope that all helps with your planning.
Another option for ski passes is the Paradiski Zen ski pass. A couple of the people I skied with last season used them for 10 days and saved money on the ski pass they would have bought. If I remember correctly, even with paying for the card in advance online which is very easy to set up, they still saved about 30 Euros each over the 10 days. Plus we went to Tignes and Meribel during the 10 days plus sometimes in La Plagne and Les Arcs on the same day. You simply pay for what you use. Worth checking it out if you want to be flexible as another option.

Here is the link.

Smartski, the problem with ordering on the wrong side of the vanoise Express if you are staying on the other side is that if anything goes wrong with your pass you will have a long car drive round to the correct office to get it sorted out. You are much better off to get the pass where you are staying.

Pauljames, I think that all the details you gave mean that you must order your pass at least 4 days in advance if you want it posted to you. If you want to get the discount you need to order your pass before the end of October.

There always seems to be a problem with getting the webpage for buying lift passes to work. Just keep trying and it should connect, but when it gets busy it can take ages.
More snow in Les Arcs, take a look at the web cams. Maybe it is cold enough for the snow to stay and start forming a base this time.

Remember, for the discount on '15 day and less' ski passes in Les Arcs/Paradiski you need to go online before the end of this month (October) if you want to save money. For season passes, right now the deadline is still end of November.

Check out the new Les Arcs webcams. Much better than last year. Hope they are all like this when they are working. Also here is the link to the La Plagne webcams. Just been loking and some of them are working fine. Snow down to around 2000m I would guess.

Hi folks, correction to my earlier post. The ski pass discount is only valid for passes up to 15 days, not three weeks. The season pass details are correct. Be quick as it says the offer on the 15 day passes only lasts until the end of October.

UPDATED on buying ski passes. I have checked the Info on the Les Arcs webpage.

Les Arcs are offering discounts this month on ski passes for short trips as well as season passes for the rest of this month so if you are coming out for a few days or up to three weeks then this is a good way of getting some discount.

But the pre-season offer on Season Ski Passes is valid until 30.11.2012 and not only until end of october.

For season passes you get 25% discount on a Paradiski pass which is well worth the money for a season pass.

For more info on the Season Ski passes take a look at these links. It says on the web page that the offer is open until 30 . 11 . 2012 for season passes, but I would order yours soon rather than wait as this may change.

Time for a few details for the coming season.

The Funi and other lifts in Les Arcs / Peisey Valandry areas open on the 15 December 2012 and close 27 April 2013.

They could not confirm when the Villoroger lifts open and close, but they should be the same start date as the rest of the area if there is enough snow lower down. I will post details when they have confirmed them.

The Vanoise Express opens on 22 December 2012 and closes 27 April 2013.
