Hi Admin, in fact the SCGB in theory changed what reps could do and called them Leaders, but in reality some leaders still go off piste, often without really knowing where they are going. Still only give out transcievers (which is crazy). Some leaders still just take advice from members of their groups. So really very little has changed.
Andyhull, I agree with what you have said. I do not think what ski host for tour companies do was bad. It was very social and low risk. In fact much safer than the SCGB programmes. Ski hosts stayed in the resort all season and learnt the runs well. Some SCGB leaders do not know the resort they come to and then lead people around with little knowledge. It will be interesting to see how this develops. I think SCGB might come unstuck in Italy as the authorities there tend to be much more proactive in this type of offence once they choose to enforce a rule. I would think this is why the tour companies have chosen to halt their prorammes rather than take a risk of trouble. |

I think this is going to prove very popular. Just did a test booking for low season period in March and it would cost £136 return with nothing more to pay. Seems like a good deal to central London. No waiting around at the airports and more luggage at no extra cost.
Here is the link I used. http://www.eurostar.com/uk-en/eurostar-deals/eurostar-train-deals/ski-train-the-alps/ski-train-the-swiss-alps/timetables |

As if they did not know already what was going on. I have a friend that knows her well. Has even skied with her and no way should she have been in the Olympics. I know youngsters with as many FIS points as she had before the big fix took place. What a joke!!

I also heard about this a few days ago. Very sad news for the tour companies as I do not think they took any business away from the ski schools. In fact I think they brought work to them. Very short sighted of the local ski schools.
I also do not believe that the SCGB should continue with their programme. I see very little difference between what they offer and what a tour operator offers. In fact when you add the 'Off Piste' that the SCGB do without qualified Instructors, IMO I would think they are far more likely to have legal problems if there were an accident. I have friends who still lead for them and I know many have withdrawn for this season at least. |

Another week has passed and it is snowing in Les Arcs.
Remember today is the last chance for discounted holiday passes so hurry. http://lesarcs.paradiski.com/en/ Here are photos of the ski stations. Pity they still do not have the webcams in Arc 1950 or anything in Arc 2000 working. But at least the Arpette Ridge webcam is on. Good to see snow down in Arc 1600 and completely covering the Arc 2000 bowl. Let us hope it stays cold and starts to form a base. Snow line is at about 1300m.
(Looking across to the new development above Edenarc in Arc 1800.)
(Here is the next one. Arc 1600.)
(From the Arpette ridge looking down at Arc 1950 and Arc 2000.)
(Finally looking across to Peisey Vallandry and Arc 1800 from Vanoise Express.) Ski a la Carte: I have always bought a 'Ski a la Carte' card since they first started. Really useful if you also want to visit other ski areas like Espace Killy or further away and want a daily discount. I always manage to cover the cost of the card and get some added discount so worth the price I pay. If anyone only wants to pay for the days they ski, it is a good idea and cheaper than the normal weekly pass if you have a day off. Plus you only pay for where you ski ie. Les Arcs side. But if you go to La Plagne for a day the extra cost is just added for that day. No need to get another pass as it works on both sides of the Vanoise Express. You need to go to the link and read all the details. It is in English. Easy to follow. If you also get passes for Under 18 year olds they are free, but the daily rate is a flat charge with NO children's discount so you need to do the maths. You might need to call them to find out what it will really cost you each time you ski with the kids. This year there is a discount every 5 days after the ninth day (pay only 1 Euro). I still recommend you read all the details online. http://www.skialacarte.fr/en/ski-card.php Hope that all helps. |
