Les Arcs, what can I say. It is an amazing place at any time of the winter. Joking apart. I think unless you are very unlucky March is normally a great time to go. Get your dates right and you will miss the French, other European and British school holidays.
I do not agree with Matt. We had a great time towards the end of the season in Les Arcs and i was skiing in both places until the lifts closed and yes it was slushy by late morning towards the end of March and April, but then it was the same everywhere. Whatever dates you choose, you will still have a good time as long as there is some snow. Paradiski is mostly high so if it is closed there it is likely to be bad in most places. Have a good trip wherever you go. |

maybe I will do a trip report of some awesome skiing we did in Switzerland last season. You can do it there without costing to much if you try.

Interesting article. I agree with most of what you have written. People tend to take to much notice of what is said in the press about the dangers in mountain areas around the world. Yes there are risks and you need to be careful, but it does not need to stop you from going anywhere within reason. Syria right now might be a mistake.
I have skied and snowboarded in Kashmir on both the Indian and Pakistani side and the people were friendly and mostly really helpful. I have skied in Swat Valley, Gilgit Hindu Kush and loads of other places in this part of Northern Pakistan and never had any prolems. Even been in a few other places in China, Tibet and Nepal. All really great to get away from the normal ski crowds and find awesome powder. I must come and see you guys in Gulmarg some time soon. Good luck for this winter. |

Hi Johnny. Think if you are going to be in Bourg area for 6 weeks you need to get on my facebook page and join our group section. You will then meet others who are out for the winter or part of it. SEnd me a PM on facebook if you fancy meeting up when you get there.
To answer your question. Check out polaire Star ski and snowboard rental shop in Bourg right by the bottom funi station. You can even leave your gear there to save carrying it home if you rent from them. They do some very good deals for longer periods and have great skis etc. Ask for Rosie or Gordon and tell them I recommended them. You can book online in advance or at the shop. http://www.polairestar.com/ |

Blue sky and warm in the mountains today. Not exactly summer weather, but very nice for hiking. It does get cold in the evening, but all that snow which came last week has gone, but then it is only just November. Still, I was snowboarding a few weeks after this last winter. Hope the predicted cold weather and more snow arrives soon.
My advice, if you just cannot take your eyes off the weather and snow forecasts. Make a link to the web cams in Les Arcs so you can collect your own daily updates. http://www.lesarcs.com/en/experience/webcams.html I shall start my normal updates when I get back their in a while. Hope you all had a nice day in the sun today where ever you are. I have also seen on the Les Arcs site that the discounted passes are on sale until 15 November. Not sure if this is correct or just something they have not changed on the web page from last year. If this information is incorrect I shall post again tomorrow after I have checked. So if you have not yet bought your lift pass for your holiday in Les Arcs or the Paradiski area. Go to this link. BUT hurry. New final date is 15 November 2014 for discounts. http://lesarcs.paradiski.com/fr/eb-prolongation Hope this helps with your planning. |

Les Arcs 2014 - 2015 season thread starts here.
With all the talk of fresh snow last weekend I had a quick chat with a friend in Les Arcs a few minutes ago. The building work in Arc 1800 is progressing well and hopes are still high for finishing the work on time. Watch this space for more updates. The fresh snow that came has mostly gone even up high on the Aiguille Rouge Glacier. There is a fresh dusting around, but not much more. Take a look at the web cams to see for yourself. Most are now working. Fingers crossed for lots more snow in the coming weeks. Still a while before the resort opens on 13 December 2014. I will post more details about the coming season here as I get them. Hope you all have a good winter and maybe see some of you in Les Arcs. |
