Just been scanning the 7 day forecsats for Europe and there is next to nothing forecast...which is mildly depressing. I know we lose accuracy the further out we go, but is there any promising long range forecast out there, or seasonal indicators which foretell glorious snowfall which I can cheer myself up with?
New Snowboard

Hoping someone can help with some logical thinking here, possibly even the two planks crowd.

After my first week on a hire board, I learnt to snowboard on a 163cm wide mid-range board made by Rossignol. I am 190cm tall, with size 9 (43) feet and fluctuate between 72-80 kilo's.

It has seen 30+ days of intense learning, fun and rough terrain in the last year, and it also had a wee run in with a t-bar which is another story. It has been fully serviced by pro's once and I regulary wax it and treat it very nicely indeed.

However I want a new board for my next adventure in March.

My question is, should I go a little bit longer and possibly not so wide? I am nervous to buy something different to what I have always known in case I don't enjoy it as much. I am looking at a Burton Custom (as the 2007/2008 prices have just started to become reasonable) and can't decide if to stay a little shorter and fatter, or go longer on a normal width board (which will give a little more width due to the length).

I ride mainly on piste (75%) and sometimes a little further off-piste (25%) and currently not a big park person. However I would like to get into the park this time around, especially the half pipe as I think it suits my style of riding. Basically I want something that is not too stiff, not to soft and suits my physical needs.

Any advice?

I use both every day....

Pair of Adidas Burna Googles (Matt Black) for when I'm pushing it or bad conditions

http://www.gosportsspex.co.uk/Adidas_Burna_Goggle.asp

ana a pair of Oakley Polarized Half-Jacket XLJ Array for cruising and good weather

http://oakley.com/pd/3300

Can't break either pair, and believe me being on my head on a mountain at 9.30am with a hangover is a hell of a raod test.
I did Ryanair just befor Xmas to England and back (I live in Germany) and took a full size suitcase about (20kg) and a fully packed snowboard bag (approx 20kg). This was because I was doing a weeks business in the UK then flying directly to Val d'Isere from England. I paid the extra ski/snowboard charge and prnted out the T&C just in case. They didn't ask any questions either way. If you are flying from Stanstead they really have no time to bother (unless you get an arse on a power-trip).

Regarding the seats with Ryanair, you can either pay the surcharge for priority boarding or be a little clever. Turn up early make sure you are at the head of the standard boarding. At Stanstead and a lot of Ryanair destinations they use a bus to take you to the plane. The priority people will all be on the 1st bus along with the head of the standard queue. In effect this means you get the benifit of the priority boarding without paying. Obviously this changes a bit on buisness routes because more peope priority book, but generally it works well for me.

I know VT was purpose built, but it certainly doesnt have the snob value you mention.

The carbuncle on the Maurienne landscape known as VT should, IMHO be used as target practice by all EU airforces :x

I raise you:

Boston, Lincs.

For more worthy of bombing practice.

Re-Raise

Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs.

Although I think that's maybe why it looks like that already.

Hahaha,

I was staying in Flizmoos in the Ski Amade region last week, and was busy dancing my (sweaty) socks off in the apres ski at about 7pm when they decided to turn on the lights on the beginners' slope and open the lift to all. Needless to say after the 7 or 8 VRB's and couple of Weizen's I had just consumed I was very eager. So I spent the next hour racing a crazy Dutch bloke who insisted on giving me rum at every available opportunity :)

I guess the subsequent snowboarding home at 4.30am across fields etc for 4km would have to go in the "how early can you ski in europe" thread.

I know I have the advantage of living in Germany already, but book ahead and use the trains, it's cheap, stress-free and one can get a wee bit tipsy on the way!!!

Got to Flachau/Filzmoos and back last week for 65 € each on the fast trains.

I used to live in Newcastle, and if I was doing it from there I'd probably make a trip of it and get the overnight ferry to Amsterdan (have a wee drinky), hop on the train down towards Frankfurt/Karlsruhe (have a wee drinky) and then head for Salzburg or Geneva depending on if I wanted to go to Austria or France whilst having a wee drinky.
