It's all turned out nice again then :)

Can anyone explain to me why when watching the Mayerhofen forecast and snow reports for the last week, that it has snowed every day and the snow levels do not increase?

Am I being incredibly stupid or is the base melting as fast as it's being topped up?

Or are the lovely people of mayrhofen having too much fun to update it?
Meribel or La Plagne?

You might want to avoid Mayrhofen at that time anyway if you want to avoid this crowd...

I will be there of course :D

Haha, the wave theory is so true pavelski. I have also noticed the lunchtime ski/boarding behaviour, so I just ride through to about 2pm where I will take half an hour for lunch and a Glühwein. A couple of bars of chocolate in your pocket gets you through from breakfast. The relative P&Q between 12 and 2 is great.

I have noticed it also on lifts, six or seven chairs will go by without anyone on then there will be 5 full ones together...probably a result of the lemming behaviour on the slopes.

It is the same taking your board or skis to the shop for a service, or to buy something halfway through the holiday. 4.30 to 5.30 all the shops are jammed full, why not take a seat have a beer and wait for them all to leave rather than participating in the great "British" sport of queuing :)

Chile and Argentina

Thinking of going to Chile in late June before the local school holidays start and jack up the price. Been looking at Valle Nevado for 8 days, and maybe having a few days in Santiago either side to recover from/prepare for flights.

Several questions I have if anyone can help....

How snow sure is this resort at the end of June?

I am kind of a rapidly progressing intermediate snowboarder and my girlfriend is a skier who hasn't been in ten years (we are both 32)...is this resort suitable for us? She will probably take lessons in the morning and meet up with me in the afternoons.

Looking at getting a halfboard package with skipass etc. What are the incidental cost like here? By incidental I mean beer, which has the habit of never turning out to be incidental, I spent more on beer and food in Austria a month ago than I did for the weeks holiday, skipass and transport (although it was incredibly cheap deal).

Thanks in advance for any help :) Can't go another summer without any riding and NZ is just tooooo far away.

Looking to book when I get back from Mayrhofen in about 3 weeks

I really appreciate your help Gents!! :D

I have made a decision what to do. I am gonna keep out the park this year (only have 9 more days planned) and concentrate on my mountain skills. I have decided to buy a decent freeride board after much deliberation. This is similar to the Rossi I already have (which is quite damaged by the way), but longer and thinner.

My skill riding switch and comfort with fakie is (what I consider) very high. I decided I need to improve my classical technique. So a long directional board seemd to make sense.

When it comes round to next season I think I will invest in a freestyle board to compliment it and move into the park.

The advice on the bindings is very much appreciated, it makes life much simpler.

A load of my colleagues are away skiing/riding this weekend and I am extremely jealous, all I have to look forard to is dismantling a kitchen the re-assembling it 150m down the road.

Too many already, but Sunday afternoon (27th Jan) in the Ski-Amade region, on a long red in a blizzard, no-one on the mountain at all, riding SUBSTANTIAL powder (50-70cm new snow) for the first time!!!

Thanks for the advice guys. Travelling with 3 boards is probably a bit much for me as I always use the trains and you start to get a bit bogged down. I did take two on my last trip, my own and a friends who has been injured, but never got round to using it.

Not sure I will carry 3, gets a bit heavy when using the trains around Europe :)

chaletslovakia, you mentioned other boards that are superior, do you have any tips? The problem with the Burton is the bindings, and Trencher's logic is good about only carrying one pair, but that does not work with a Burton and my Rossi.
