Where's the best skiing in Scotland?

I have never protested that the weather was reliable enough for a long distance type booking, all I have ever said is that when it is good, it is exceptional.

Sorry, I am getting defensive  , you laying in to Scotland is like me laying in to the nations least favourite mega-market and its aggressive pricing strategies along with ridiculous expansion which surely cannot be sustained.. unless it can then we are in trouble. Maybe Glencoe should adopt similar tactics

Why not look in to booking a chalet? 12 of you could fill a nice sized one.. it would probably work out pretty cheap too.

I think you would be surprised. Hopefully someone comes up with a pretty aggressive investment plan for Glencoe and puts it in to action, it could be pretty successful if someone goes about it the right way. How could a gondola to the top of a munro in the most beautiful area of the United Kingdom not be a hit!?

next year there maybe zero snow

Never going to happen, the press only report it when it is either really good, or really bad. It has to come at the right time for you, for me there is no right time as I am always here. Most years ski resorts do turn a profit, unfortunately they don't when they try and buy other ski hills or golf courses

bandit wrote:Pabs I was chatting to a keen Scots skier last week, and he reckons that Glencoe is in the black on the balance sheet for the last 2 winters. is that correct?

I do remember being on Cairngorm one Easter Sunday, and 10,000 lift tickets were sold that day, pre-funicular though. Never, since then, have I queued for a T-bar in ranks of lines

I believe it is true but I think you would really have to look at the books before you made your mind up!

I have waited in many a lift line in Scotland but the last few years have been pretty quiet! I have only once waited more than an hour for a button lift

Ian Wickham wrote:You guys have gotta keep it in perspective this year has been a good snow year for you, which is excellent, but you have to agree that it is inconsistent from year to year, next year there maybe zero snow
and thats because of the height, it will always be inconsistent snow cover in scotland 8)

Ian, please refrain from commenting too much on a subject you only really have press-based knowledge of

This year has been a bad snow year, in terms of skier days it has been passable, better than the last few days perhaps but only passable.

It just happens that this year the good snow coincided with half term and the 'credit crunch' to create the numbers to turn a profit, other than that it has been pretty dreadful. Last year was FAR better but the good snow did not coincide with the holidays as well as it did this time round.

Making good money is more complicated than just having good snow, it has to come at the right time. If it doesn't it can be a "HORRIBLE YEAR FOR SCOTTISH SKIING" but a great year in terms of snow (especially when I only live an hour down the road).

I would imagine the problem will only get worse if the forecast snow falls?
