Hey folks,
Myself and a few friends are off to Valmeinier for new years. we're mostly going because we got a really good deal organising it oursleves but while we've heard nothing but good stories about the slopes and the conditions in general... I haven't heard anything about the nightlife or what there is to do in the evening. I should say that our main concern is to go boarding and skiing with any nightlife a bonus, not the other way around... any feedback would be great!! :) |

i've never actually been to Valmeinier but have only heard good things about it. a bit quiet at night but like the guys said great boarding/skiing. i thing they have a park there aswell with jumps etc, either there or Valloire

dont just look in Italy, we are flying to Turin for new years and going in to france to Valmenier. its only an hour and half drive or thereabouts. but there's not alot of cheap accomodation left in the resorts. if you get really stuck for accomodation using Turin itself as a base is not necessarily a bad thing. you can get to Bardonecchia, Sauze d'oulx and Sestrieres within about 1hr20mins on bus or train. It'll cost about 15euro return depending on where you are going. you will miss out on any apres ski in the resorts but at least you get to ski/board!! you could also rent a car to get you up and the drive is mostly motorway once out of the city. Cervinia is a longer drive but... if you are hell bent on going then nothing is too far.
Turin is pretty cool for nights out but dont expect the wildest night of your life. depends on what you are into and how tired you are from early starts!!! |

I've only ever gone on one whole week snowboarding holiday as i used to live in turin so we would go up every weekend on the bus/train (to Bardonecchia, Sauze, Sestriere etc) and i couldnt believe how people wouldnt go boarding/skiing if they were actually staying in a resort, solely because conditions werent perfect!! any bad day on the mountain (once there is enough snow) is better than a good day in the city!!!

I completely understand the anticipation. I used to live in Turin for a couple of years and every weekend in winter was for snowboarding... then i moved back to Dublin (a place i love)... imagine the horriblenessism of that!!!
only 4 weeks to go until i'm off to France!!!!!!! |
