after the snowshoe tour I've got back on the skis today for the first time this season over at Grimentz. Lifts aren't running yet so it was a climb on skis and skins before a run down in untracked powder :

Well I live in Switzerland and I can tell it most certainly does get colder than that on a regular basis. The fact the snow doesn't instantly melt is a bit of a give-away :D Round here temperatures of -10 or -20 are pretty common without wind chill. It's -12 now :D |

SLF are now saying
Cold though here, down to -15' overnight and around -11' now. |

Anyway, I also hear Tresspass are pretty good.

I don't see why not :?: Anyway, it's not very important but they do not sponsor the British team at least not the seniors, they do sponsor the juniors and the freestyle team. I think that's more consistent with their brand as well. Sadly UK/GB snowsport's made up of a thousand different organisations which rather dilutes sponsorship. I think the current clothing partner for the seniors is Besson the Italian company which I can't see any difference in principle from Schoeffel. |

Here in Europe we largely use composite raquettes, in much colder weather you need aluminium ones and a larger footprint for really, really deep powder. TSL are pretty much the market leader I think and their website has a product selector that's quite good. The local store's given me some demo Inook Experts which are French and I really quite like them but Tubbs and MSR both do nice composite models as well. For me there's not much difference. The product selector on the TSL site will give you an idea about the length you need which should basically transfer between models. Otherwise, good waterproof boots, I use Lowa mountaineering boots, gaitors are absolutely essential and some trekking poles and you're away. Raquetting in the Jura is pretty popular, where will you be? |

I have three, all canons, an EOS 5D, EOS 350D and an A95. I used the 350 today, not as good as my 5D but much lighter and easier to use with my arm injury. They're all shot raw with 2/3 stop underexposure and manually white balanced. |
