Ski near geneve - for a weekend

Depends where you're going if a transfer ticket is cheaper. However, whoever told you that was talking total rubbish. Two singles will never be cheaper than a return ticket so it's a question of if you can travel cheaper on a regular ticket compared to transfer ticket. Easy to check, just check the price on the SBB site I linked to above. This isn't the Channel Tunnel or the Virgin Rail, it's a the Swiss public transport system, it's efficient and doesn't engage in predatory pricing.

You might find an exception but generally the transfer ticket will be cheaper. For Zermatt a standard return is 178.- chf or 80 quid.

Am I reading it right? Does it say that the transfer is free!!?

Just re-read it. Perhaps its' if you buy one then another person goes free.

badly written

It's basically 52 quid a ticket and that's a round trip from the point of entry to the resort. A better writeup here http://www.swisstravelsystem.com/produkttexte.php?passid=3

Bandit would know more, obviously we don't use them we've half price and GA's anyway. It's especially good for Zermatt as it's train all the way. Timetables at http://www.sbb.ch/en/index.htm

Good idea, there's a train all the way from the airport to the town of Zermatt itself, the Swiss Transfer ticket is very cheap. The Zermatt tourist office have an online booking system which is easy to use as well.

Zermatt ought to be on everyone's "must ski" list. The only drawback is that a weekend's not long enough :D
Early April Skiing in St Anton, possibly?

I've not been out with a tape measure but I'm not sure it's any more south facing than St Anton from memory. Alpe d'Huez would be as good, at least, for spring looking from this far away.

Warth

What would be the easiest/cheapest way to get there from the UK (Oxfordshire) ?

I know there is a number of options of airports to fly to there, but from where is it the easiest to travel onwards in a economical way after that. Don't mind a few changes if need being.

Found a bus connection from Friedrichshafen airport to Lech, but I've read that the road between Lech and Warth can be closed most of the winter.

Anyone on here got any suggestions how to get there ?
(private taxi is not affordable!)

It's actually quite an awkward place to get to, the main route that I've used is up from the Bregenzerwald. I'm pretty sure you'll find public transport from Bregenz which isn't too hard to get to from Friedrichshafen, they're both on the Bodensee.

I'm sure the tourist office would be delighted to help though.
