Travelling with ski boots

Next year I am purposely not travelling with any hand luggage. The last three years at Bournemouth airport have been a nightmare for me. Every-one stands in line, boots in their hand, hand luggage through the xray machine, a quick frisk down with metal detector thing, every-one else gets waved through. Not me, three times now my hand luggage has been emptied out and scrutinised. I have been asked why I have a mobile phone with MP3 player, why I need an ipod as well. I have had to switch my phone on to prove it connects to a network, and I can never remember the PIN. I have been body searched, I have had a cuddly toy taken out and put through the scanner seperately. They are not going to humiliate me this time. My OH thinks its hilarious. Does any-one else have this? I am sure I do not look dodgy, I am always dressed smart although I probably look a bit nervous, I am terrified of flying. Hubby says its because:
1. I wear dodgy winnie the pooh socks.
2. Cos he is younger than me, it looks like I am kidnapping him.
3. Cos in my job I handle medicines and drugs all day long, it permeates my body and the sniffer dogs pick uo on it.
Not funny
Lapland anyone ?

I think it looks great for beginners, young kids, and people who like to sit around and not ski all day, and it looks beautiful too. But I just dont think it has any appeal to someone like me who likes to get up and down slopes and ski from first to last lift.

Plus I am a big kid at heart and just love to play in the snow.

But if you are like me, a relative beginner, who ski's, boards and xcross country skier its the ideal place for me. Plus because I want to do all the extra snow safari's, the last lifts every day are 9.30pm I can extend the hours spent on the slopes. Plus it was the only place I could find with log cabins for just the two of us, no sharing.
It might prove to be not what I expected but could prove to be my paradise.

rustyinn wrote:Bristol airport DO NOT allow ski boots as hand baggage and going from what I saw last year this policy was strictly enforced - there were several signs round the terminal warning you of this and I saw several people turned back at security.

Don't know about other UK airport policies though, best to check!

We are going to Ruka for the same reason, different sort of snow experiences. We have booked all the excursions through the tour operator, they worked out slightly cheaper than resorts prices. I know the daylight hours will be less but every-where is flood-lit from about 3.30pm so you can ski a lot later. I know it will be a lot colder but you can hire thermal boots and suits and all the excursions usually provide you with extra warm clothing.

:lol:I shall miss all that next year. I wonder what tunes the Finns have? I understand they are heavily into karaoke. They murder all the brit classics.
