Aww, they're gorgeous and it's great to know they'll make such a difference to someone's life. :D How long do they spend in training before they move on to their new homes?
Haven't spotted the snow theme yet.... |

Just wondering if we could get round this by using a double ski bag as one piece of luggage and a suitcase as the other? It may be a bit of a squeeze getting everything in though, particularly with two pairs of ski boots to pack. :(
Was seriously considering flying BA to Turin for this year's holiday, however may have to have a rethink - Jet2 to Chambery (which was much cheaper anyway) and car hire perhaps? :D |

Thanks for your comments everyone – my mouth is watering reading this. :D
The figures that have been mentioned are about what I expected, and although I'm not really a pizza person (well, not when given the option of pasta or risotto) my OH and brother are, so it's useful to have an idea of prices in town. IIRC we paid about €9 for a pizza for lunch last year (which was huge and fed both of us), but that was at Sportinia. Now all I need to do is sort out an apartment, which is proving a lot trickier than I expected. I guess everyone must be away on their summer hols, as no-one is replying to my e-mails. :( |

I'm looking to go back to Sauze in January 2010, however am seriously considering the self catering option rather than stopping in a hotel. I think I may have persuaded my parents and brother to come along too so in theory, we should be able to sort accommodation and flights for a lot less than the cost of a hotel.
My question is, does anyone have experience of the restaurants in Sauze i.e. are they any good and what kind of a figure would we be looking at for a half decent meal? The other option would be to stock up at the supermarket and cook (which I don't have problem with), however it would be useful to have a rough idea what it would cost to eat out so we can budget accordingly. The idea is to do this holiday for a little as possible so job permitting on my part, we can do a second break later in the year. Thanks :D |

Hi Gareth,
I've been to Sauze twice and both times stopped at the Hotel Gran Baita, which I can thoroughly recommend. The food is delicious and the hotel is set back from the main square so if you want a decent night's sleep you can get one. The skiing in Sauze/Sestriere is great, however the snow cover is erratic so you may be best booking last minute if possible, particularly early in the season. On saying that, I've had great snow for both my trips, particularly this year (first two weeks of January) when you could ski all the way down to Jovenceaux at about 1300m. I'm sure you'll have a great time :D Lynn |

Hi Mike,
You could possibly try ski horizon, who seem to have a lot of apartments in various European ski resorts (not used them myself but have heard good reports.) I don't know if they do season lets, but it could be worth a look? Good luck with your search ) Lynn |

Fantastic photos Tino – glad you had a great trip and made it back (just about) in one piece!
Hope the head, shoulder and various other assorted injuries are starting to heal, ready for you to damage them again next season..... :D |

Even if the whole county decided not to fly, it's going to make sod all difference in the grand scheme of things (sorry Ally). Call me cynical, but the word 'green' seems to be synonymous with extra taxes and excuses to make money from us all, rather than any real desire to save the planet.
I'm of the opinion that the planet is getting warmer, with or without our input from 'carbon' or whatever the buzz word is at the moment, and we are just going to have to learn to live with it. If we are to blame, then the damage is probably already done anyway. :( I'm happy to do my bit and try to save energy ('though this is usually my finances talking rather than my conscience) and recycle where I can as resources are running out, but as others have said, I'm not going to make life awkward for myself by refusing to fly. With regard to the ski test, I looks like it would be a great short break but I don't think my finances will stretch that far at present ('though if I turn off a few more lights and switch off the heating to help save the planet, they may do!) :D |
