Like Bandit I have had 2 neuromas removed from 1 foot, but had this done before I started skiing. The first 2 times I had hired boots and kept getting them changed until I found a pair that were comfortable. When I bought my boots due to the numbness in your foot that you are left with, I chose boots that with hindsight were too big. My last 2 ski trips have been an experiment with different and numerous insoles and even a different thickness of socks for each foot, and although this is probably not a perfect solution, I find that I am getting to a point where I can keep my boots on all day in reasonable comfort, instead of them being either too loose or too tight.

Hi Mekka, I have been to Bardonecchia for the past 3 years and will be back there again in January. As far as I am aware there are no restrictions on the lifts that you can use and if you are going into ski school they only have 1 nursery slope and they tend only to use that for complete beginners and assessment on the first day, after lessons it is upto you where you feel competent to ski. Its a great place and if the snow is as good as last year you will have a ball. :D

Last week in Bardonecchia, I found myself on a blue run that is usually pisted but due to heavy snow fall it was about two feet deep in powder. I probably spent more time looking at the sky than skiing, but it was great fun and at least it didnt hurt when I fell over. I am due to go to Canada in 6 six weeks so hope I will benefit from this experience and more importantly put to good use any information that I can gain from this post.

I know this will be too late for Dean, but I have just arrived back from Italy today, on checking 2prs of skis plus bag at Doncaster our bag weighed 14.9 kgs and they accepted that with no problem, although at the oversize desk they did make us open the bag. IMO though, I think that whether or not they accept overweight bags or charge extra will be entirely dependent on the person/airport doing the check in.

Thanks for that info, we will look at that option if we don't get any joy when we speak to Thomsons on Monday.

Just to let anybody know who might be thinking of going to Canada this season. In Feb this year we booked to go to Canada in Feb 2009, flying from Manchester to Calgary with Monarch. We have just been advised today that Monarch will no longer be flying out of Manchester and we now have to either find other flights from Gatwick or Heathrow, change our booking completely or cancel.
We have been told this has nothing to do with Monarch being in trouble, and this is purely a business decision, so we now have to wait until Monday to see if we can getted booked on another flight. This has come as a real disappoint to us, but we are still going try and get to Canada next year if we can get flights. Has anyone heard any more about, or if there will be extra flights added from London?? |

Hi There
Off to Bardonecchia myself tomorrow, its a great little resort. We went last year at the same time and conditions were pretty dire, but have heard that conditions are great there now and they are forecasting varying amounts of snow for most of next week. I have only ever needed glasses to ski in so far, only my 3rd time this year, but will be taking goggles as well. Have a great holiday and if we happen to bump into each other hope its in the bar and not on the slopes. FatKAt |
