I have something from Eider that is similar to what you describe. Mostly black with red accenting. I managed to get it for ~£65 second hand.
How about this one for an accident

Rubbish!

The guy was learning the other guy in green was not looking.

Did you watch the same clip I watched? Clearly the guy in the red who was the uphill skier was out of control and clearly the guy in the green was NOT a learner :?:

I agree.

and one more. One of the very few bits of French that has been drilled in to me is "priorité au skieur aval". The guy who comes in from left of frame looks neither in control, nor aware of his surroundings.

My advice? Buy second hand. I recently bought a Gore-Tex XCR Eider ski jacket for £60 from ebay. I'll be looking in to salopettes too, since I managed to slice the ankle of my trespass ones to pieces with my ski edges (yes, yes, I know my stance was too narrow). My experience with the cheaper makes has been anything but favourable, but then again I think I get warmer than most when I'm skiing so it's breath-ability rather than insulation that's the big factor for me.

I did manage to grab a bargain in TK Maxx the first time I went there though, obliviously picking up a Killy shell for £70, not really knowing they were such a decent make. It's definitely possible to strike gold there, but not a common occurrence I would say.

Some helmets come with a "goggle gasket" in case the goggles are little too small to get a good 'seal' as such.

I've not been impressed with their stuff in the past - not great in terms of breathability or waterproofing.

On the other hand, it is very cheap.

If you're looking to buy now, I would certainly have a look over here: http://www.regattaoutlet.co.uk/. Definitely a step or two up from the D2B stuff, and at similar (sometimes better!) prices.
If anyone's driving up from Edinburgh or Glasgow any time soon and is willing to take one more, please drop me a PM. I'm going to be free from next weekend, and would love to get some skiing in!
Where should we go?

And where from?

We'll be going the week that falls over Christmas, and my parents are based in Cambridge so Stansted is ideal, but any other London airport is fine.

As much as I'd like to go there, my parents would be funding my place so I would feel bad insisting on what is, so far as I can tell, quite an expensive resort. If anyone knows of a good value chalet, that would be great news!
