I know this one! My brother and I had a lot of fun trying to fit through a raaather small gap after a season of good snow.

One of my favourite pistes has got to be Jerusalem, above St. Martin de Belleville in the 3 valleys. If you get it on a quiet day, you can zoom down it and fly off the top of massive rollers. It also has spectacular views, and because of it's out-of-the-way location, can be a bit of a peaceful spot on busy days.

Face in Val D'Isere is also a favourite for thigh-burning goodness.
I just did a very bad thing

and it might have been one of my better decisions of the past few years...

Flights booked to Calgary for 31st Dec -> 13th Jan. Accommodation with a friend in Kicking Horse for the duration. Scary amount of money on ski pass being scrounged together from sale of worldly possessions. PhD supervisor notified after the payment for flights, in case he tries to say no. Girlfriend notified after the payment for the flights, in case she tries to say no. Now I've just got to patiently wait...

CANADAAAA! The days can't go fast enough! :D
Bolle Nova Goggles

I've got a pair of these, as does my dad. Best goggles I've used, and the modulator is very handy for variable weather days (which accounts for most of them in Scotland...)
Ski or motorbike gloves

I got myself some Reusch jobbies from Tacky-maxx a couple of years back. I'd gone through 4 pairs before these, from Salomon, Gordini and some cheapo brand. By the construction of the Reusch gloves they could practically be for motorbiking, the leather on the palm and between the thumb and index finger is very hard wearing and doesn't seem to have succumbed to the ski edges at all.

Awesome video! I saw a lot of people hiking up from the Glacier chair on Friday - I think there were a couple of ESF groups up there. Unfortunately by Saturday I was down in Bourg waiting for the train, I wish I could've been skiing that instead.

Please, please no.

... the big stone sticking out of the front wasn't enough to warrant that already?
Organising a large group

Hey,

So I've rather madly taken it upon myself to organise a skiing holiday next year with a load of people from a university sports club. I'm thinking that I'll be able to get 20 interested parties without too much trouble. Whilst I have planned a holiday before, it's never been with such a large group - so what I want to know is where I should be going to get the best deals, etc. We will all be students, so price is an issue, but we're happy to self cater. Not too bothered by which country, so long as the skiing is good (so not looking at Bulgaria, Romania etc.).

Any recommendations from someone more experienced than myself?

I'm buying new ski boots

Most people recommend wearing ski boots in before taking them on holiday, so don't expect them to be perfectly comfortable on their first usage just a day after fitting. In fact, I would recommend not going to Milton Keynes so soon, and first wearing them about the house a little, so you get a fairer judgement of what they'll be like when actually skiing. All good boot fitters should give you (free) subsequent appointments to account for any discomfort you may have from the boots, so be prepared to return, possibly multiple times, to this place.

That's about all I can think of for the moment. If I'm not mistaken, we have a member who is himself a well regarded boot fitter, but I most certainly am not, and don't claim to be any authority on the matter.
