Ski Chalet vs Hotel

I imagine he means chalet, actually, but never mind.

In my 8 or 9 weeks skiing, I've only stayed in a hotel once. As I usually go in a large group, I much preferred the chalet environment, though that being said, other than one year, we've always filled the chalet in question. I enjoy the social areas present in chalets more so than hotels, and the price difference is often rather substantial. So my vote would go for the chalet.
I'm a student, I'm broke whatever the (economic) weather! I'm currently sitting in the basement of an exam board to earn the money to take me skiing in '09. Summers are nice, but nothing compares to fields of the white stuff. Nothing is going to stop me skiing, damn it.
How to learn skiing FAST!!!

Perhaps one day all these skiers that "meet" in this site can plan a ski holiday in a ski resort that is "nearly" closed! Then Mike,Tony, Gordie, Jan, IceGhost, Caron-a, Ellitsine et al can finally meet and ski together!
I know I can convince some ski companies to provide some sample skis! I know I can convince some ski resort to just close one day later! I know I can get some hotels to provide some low low end of season rates!!!!

Its nice to still have dreams!

I must admit, I'm not the most active of users here on the site. I tend to read more than post, lurking as some call it. I am always here to learn, as skiing is what I spend all my year looking forward to, and I'm striving to improve. Having seen all the passion for skiing expressed on this site, a trip like you described sounds really quite incredible. If I'm welcome, count me in!

That's me in the foreground, on a beautiful powder day, heading down towards Meribel.

Alternatively, here is me in a less skiing sortof atmosphere. This is on a pub crawl at the start of term... I'm on the left :P On the right is the girl who saw it fit to paint my face like a cat.

Accommodation Tignes Easter
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 3 Replies
Hi All,

My family are looking at a holiday in Tignes, in Easter 2009. We would be a group of possibly as many as 13, so I realise that is a little restrictive. Does anyone know of some good accommodation available in the Espace Killy area? I'm a little wary after reading the Savoie Holidays warning.

A somewhat unrelated question: I would much prefer to go to St. Anton, as I've not been before, but my parents were worried about the snow record at that altitude. Can anyone give any first hand experience of conditions in St. Anton in early April?

Thanks a lot!
Whilst I can't speak first-hand, a friend of mine who was on the Scottish Juniors racing team learnt to ski on dry slope. She had been skiing dry slope since 6, and didn't touch snow until age 11. Living in Edinburgh during term time, Hill End (one of the largest dry slopes in Europe) is very close by. Despite the convenience, I've only ever been twice. To me, nothing comes close to matching the mountain.
Oh dear, I think I am guilty of one of those pitfalls. I usually only get to ski once a week each year, and so when I go, I really do try and pack in the runs. As I'm usually skiing with my older brother, I think we get competitive

I've been skiing since I was 11, and just this year I went skiing for the first time with friends rather than family. One of my group (admittedly a snowboarder, rather than skiier) had had two hours dry slope lessons, and considered that to be enough! So he didn't book lessons for the week, and ended up spending half his day in the chalet because he wasn't enjoying himself. I managed to convince he and a friend to go for a private lesson together, and apparently it was his best day, but still he didn't see the link. Sometimes there really is no hope.

That's interesting, you'd need German of course for that.

This sounds very interesting indeed. I've got a basic (roughly A/S standard) knowledge of German already, so at the very least I would have a strong base to build on. I'm really very tempted by that course, especially considering its 'guarantee' of work, though I'm not sure how much I believe it.
