booking holiday for my group, started at 11 people and has now dwindled to 5, this has made finding what we want tricky! we wanted a chalet, but realisticly down to an apartment now, but we'd like sole occupancy and ideally 3 bedrooms and under £600. having dificulty and am sick of trawling through web sites...

thanks for your information, that has put my mind at rest. I'm just trying to negotiate few extra pounds off trip and then I'll sign up. Already looking forward to the off piste...

In the process of booking for next year and planning on les arcs 2000, mostly we're experienced, but will have one beginner. Have read some conflicting reviews on suitability of 2000 for a beginner, is there enough around the resort for one please? and general views on the resort welcome!

that would suggest your goofy to me then, leading with the right. its not to do with left or right footed, im right footed and and regular and would slide left foot forward on floor.

this is worrying...normally i take snow train to france, the 2 flights to canada had no trouble with board bag, but this year we're flying with first choice airlines to europe and apparently your board bag can't have anything else in it. i was planning on ignoring this as my coffin board bag is used as my only bag other than hand luggage. after reading this am i going to get away with this? or do i have to buy a small board bag and take extra luggage. so annoying!

i dont know if they still run the course, but while i was in whistler they offered a free, with lift pass, avalanche awareness course. the instructors were giving 2 half days a week for a season lift pass. both were very knowledgable and was a great course. however, myself and 2 friends were the only one's on the course and instructors said quite often there wasn't anyone. if they do still run the course i highly recomend it. and its free! and they showed us some great places to go.

i'd agree with all you say, and hold my hands up to not being, by any stretch, an expert. our practice, as i live on the beach where it hasnt snowed in 10 years is clearly not mountain conditions. about the peace of mind comment, i did an avalanche course in canada and try and read up a bit on it and am a whole lot more scared of avlanches now than i was in my ignorance! now id be very scared venturing off piste without my tranceiver much like driving a car without a seat belt.
we do have a go at block test slides, and and checking the snow pack, forget the technical terms. this is generally the part i get confused with interpreting the temperature changes and so on. i will, when we do this, do a practice as you suggest with multiples on a steep slope. |
