British skier dies in Alpe d'Huez

Found this report about it

A 43 year old British skier was killed as he skied with his family and friends in Alpe d'Huez yesterday, Sunday, after suffering a fatal fall.

According to local reports, Micheal Howard Probert from St Albans, was at the start of a weeks' holiday when the accident happened during Sunday morning on the lower part of the ski area near Villard-Reculas.

It seems Mr Probert fell into a ditch and hit his head hard on the ground. Rescuers were quick to reach the scene, but the victim had suffered a heart attack and was unable to be revived.

Despite conditions being sunny and with good visability, the PGHM mountain rescue service had a busy day in the Isere area yesterday, with three other rescues for a suspected fracture, a back injury and an rock climbing injury.
Thanks for the replies

We will take your advise and split up.

Admin - Thanks for mentioning about the buggy in a third location as I will need to take one as well.
Hi, all

I will be flying into Grenoble in a couple of weeks and will be takening my own ski's.
After reading the post about lost ski,s at GVA, I was wondering where they will come out, as I have never been there.

There is a group of us and we usually split up so that some go for the ski's and the others for the luggage.
Hi Karen 72

We were told the same thing with a Ford Focus a few years ago.
We did find a company that would supply them for our car.
You need the smallest link chain as possible.
Ask the ebay seller what the size of the link is?

If you do get them, check the clearance when you fit them to make sure they are ok.

I dont know the village area of Vaujany, as I never went down that far.
There is a small area at the top of the L'alpette cable car behind the resturant (on the right). My 4 year old use to play there sometimes in the afternoons when she wasnt skiing. Its a safe sunny spot with a wall for you sit on while they are playing in the deep snow.

I stayed in Oz en oisans last Feb and will be there again this Feb.
You will be able to get to alpe de huez without ski's but it will take some time.

Take the cable car to L'Alpette and then the Gondola down to Oz en Oisans.
There is another Gondola at the other end of the village which is not that far away. This one will take you up to the top of the middle section of alp d'huez and there is a gondalo then down into the village.

Have a look at the piste map from andyhull and you should be able see the route.
