That is interesting. Seems to cover everything, rescue and medical-wise, including heli-rescue. Didn't check the off piste cover, yet. Doesn't cover travel costs, so would need to find worldwide travel travel insurance, with medi-cover for NZ this year, and the USA next year. |

I was already prepared, after 10 years ot more with DT, to move elsewhere. Last season, at the point where you have to phone in to pay a bit extra to extend beyond 17 days, I was given a price almost 3 times more than the previous years. Given that I was on a mobile from Austria, I accepted it. I felt that I was ripped off.
In the light of the reduced level of cover, DT would no longer meet my needs. Although I will only need 20 to 30 days cover this year, I normally need above 40. Hence DT will no longer meet my needs. I would have moved from them anyway. For two years I have sensed a fair degree of change in the way DT are doing business. We may need another winter insurance thread, ~ non-DT. |

Ah, you have a clear eye for good technique, Andy! |

I'm still working on my training, think I will make it. In the meantime, we had two of our qualified guide dogs back, while the blind owners went on holiday. Here is our current trainee, Tweed, our fifth guide dog, chasing Ulay, our third dog.

Hmmm, Brooksy, I was just thinking, this could be Wickers Revenge. He borrows these superb racing skis, books a flight with R***air, and gets a Daily Mail photographer to turn up at the check in. I would sell tickets for this event....... |

Interesting topic, Andy. It is evident that there will be some unfortunate folk who will be directly affected by a loss of work, a reduction in pay, or for some of those in work, who do not feel confident about the future. So, there will be fewer people skiing this year, and people who previously went twice, may only take the one week.
This is not just a UK issue, it affects the whole of Europe. The hotel capacity remains, and there will be hotels that will offer flexibility. I know my hotel friends will be moving early on their offers this year. Few Brits are brave or experienced enough to make an offer to a hotel, but it is worth the try. Hotel owners know that once there you will spend on food and drink. Airline capacity has been somewhat reduced, but there are always alternative flights if you are prepared to go DIY. Even with the reduced flight capacity, the TO's will catch the hotel offers. A big inflexible issue is lift pass cost. Interestingly, Switzerland has recognised this, and two for one offers have appeared, seemingly on a larger scale than before. The above factors may alleviate the position for some people, but not for all. I think you are right Andy, I suspect there will be fewer people going skiing this year, or, doing less skiing, Europe-wide. I wonder if it is likely to hit families more. |

Looking at only one aspect of the comparison, and that is the snow depths, (cm), for the lower/upper slopes, taking February for the example:
ZaZ ~ 10/152, 27/184, 28/116, 31/80 And ~59/73, 71/167, 69/109, 45/60 Average ~ ZaZ 24/133, And 61/102 Statistically, these figures do not represent a big variance. They do suggest other questions, such as slope direction, vertical run height comparison, I have been to Zell am Zee, and met up there with Rustyinn! It is a lovely small town, with a wonderful atmosphere. Importantly, it is an historical tirolean village, whereas Soldeu looks to be a developed resort. The beer tastes much better when the building is 500 years old! |
