Thanks for the advice.

You have highlighted the same concerns that I have, weather conditions are to unstable to book early so I would be looking at a last min trip if it were to happen. On the other hand it's just as easy/quick to go to the Alpes. I think more investigation is needed as I was not aware you could get 'long weekend' trips to the alpes.

Morning all, I am fully aware that we are all in the process of looking/booking our annual ski trips, I am currently in the same situation.

But I was thinking about a long weekend trip to Scotland (Thursday night flight up Sunday flight back down). The flights are only £50ish return from Stansted which is about 5 miles from me. I'm just not sure if the resorts are worth long trip for two and a half days on the snow.

So if anyone has skied in Scotland can they give me a review please? All feedback welcome.

Thanks in advance.
Tony i think you have made the right decision. I have been to a number of Canadian resorts and yes i have loved each one (For different reasons) i would never do a 7 day trip to them again. I was completely shattered due to jet lag.

I have never been to Chamonix but it is most deffiantly on my 'hit' list. Hope you have a great holiday.

On a side note i just checked the Tignes webcams and they have had a nice covering over night :)

Pin you can get to any ski resort in France via public transport. You are best booking one of the many transfer companies who will pick you up and drop you off according to your flights which maximises your time in resort. These are never to costly and i would guess you would be looking at approx £50-60 per person for a return.

I stayed in the lavachet area of tignes last Feb and as a resort its not the best looking but the skiing was excellent (Except the lack of fresh snow). Looking on google maps i would think you have a walk of about 5-10 mins max. the main lift area is just above what look like tennis courts on google maps. You can go either north or south from that point.

The southern lift takes you in to the main ski area where snow parks etc can be found and you can also make your way towards val disere. I will warn that if you snowboard the run into val is awful and very very flat at the bottom, you will have to unstrap and walk.

I would reccomend making your way towards the lift called Leissieres Express which takes you over into the Du Montet piest area. The lift passes up and down over the mountain top and gives a very strange feeling rather like a rollercoaster.
Recommendations for ski resorts/areas

Volf,

At the moment we have a mixed group. I would say that we range from intermediate – advanced ski/snowboard. The majority of the group will stick to the groomed runs and use reds/blacks. A small group of use will probable like 1-2 days of offpiste/backcountry (A decent ski park would be nice a well).

We are all aged between 25-30 so a good après ski would be nice but nothing to excessive.

At the moment travel time is not an issue but this could be restricted by the fact we would like to keep the budget for each person to under £900pp (everything included).

Firstly I would like to say hi to everyone, I have been a long time user of the site but only just plucked up the courage to sign up.

As the subject states I would like to know peoples recommendations for ski areas/resorts. I am currently in the process of wading through the hundreds of resorts on all different sites trying to find that perfect holiday which offers everything I want for the price I want (Its like trying to find a needle in a haystack but by god I love it). I have boarded a number of different French and Canadian resorts, our group did plan to venture over to Japan this season but the costs proved to much for some.

Last year I went to Tignes (We all know how bad the snow was last season in France) I found the skiing excellent and it was perfect weather for a few days in the park. However I still left disappointed as the off-piste at Tignes looked out of this world and due to conditions I never got to ski any of it.

So back to the point, if any one has any resorts of ski areas they would like to throw in the mixer I am all ears.

Thanks in advance.
