I need at least 3 months to get fit so I'm quite happy to wait!

Gareth Fair wrote:Tony,
If your going up the signal lift first thing you should go straight down the other side. There is some really cool easy reds on the way down to Villard and the place is empty. When you have skiied down as far as you can there is do it again and take your time as there is some great off piste that is close to the piste and great for building the confidence in the legs.
:D

Totally agree, fantastic off piste bit under the Villarais lift. Really good fun.

Jackson is an incredible place, I would love to have another trip out there.
I'd say if you're an intermediate who prefers the easier runs then you're not going to get the most out of the area. It's one that suits the experts with blacks, chutes and in bounds off piste.
Having said that you'll have a great time, it's a fabulous place with wonderful people. There is suitable terrain for you, but it's in the minority.
It was February when I went, but looking at the average snow levels, you should be fine at Christmas. Average snowfall is just under a metre on the lower slopes.

Typical Jackson terrain:

I do hate these big crowded resorts.....

I can't wait for the 9h Jan!
I got halfway through and thought I'd been watching for 10mins, I checked it was less than 3. How ever long must it have felt for him?

The key is not just to carry a transceiver but to know how to use it. It's amazing how many people carry them but have only a very limited knowledge of how to use one.
St Anton

You're going to love St Anton, if you want challenging skiing then there few areas to match it.
If you get fresh snow head over to Rendl the powder is superb and it's always a little quieter over there. Great terrain to explore in bounds where you wont need a guide.

If you're a good off piste skier, get a guide and ski the North Face of the Valluga. It's an off piste route not to me missed. (We always use Piste to Powder http://www.pistetopowder.com/)

There are too many other good routes to mention. Can't wait to back again!

Looking back at the North Face of the Valluga.

A well earned rest!
Tignes - any comments?

I've always stayed in La Lac so it's been the Trolles black back to base. Often a nightmare late in the day, full of people, a good number of which have found their way onto the black by mistake. I tend to keep over to the left just off the piste to avoid the human slalom, a much safer place to be.
A 2 mins before closing time Vin Chaud in the Toviere restaurant while the crowds depart is helps. Stops you getting frostbiten chatsbies too!
