So, do I win for the first person to go on holiday to the snow? If so, I need you to contact the owner of the hotel and persuade him that his daughter would quite well done by to...... oh hell what am I saying )

Online online to book a hotel for Munich tomorrow. Last day of Oktoberfest, a room for the night is nearly as expensive as my weekend riding!!!!

Going fast is not the primary goal of skiing, unless you are wearing a race bib.

I fully agree, it seems in Austria at least the primary goal of skiing is to get as drunk as possible )

Rose,

Been keeping diary of my trip on my iPod touch :)

Once I have kicked Steve Job's arse and asked hime how to download it to my PC I will post a full and frank and sometimes quite drunk account of my adventures for everyone to giggle at, complain about, correct or whatever.....

Dave Mac wrote:Tino, you are in Austria. Assuming you are a European resident, and assuming that you haven't also forgotten your European Health Card, (which of course, all J2skiers carry in their wallet), then you will be given hospital treament.

The only grey areas are:

Costs of getting you off the piste to the Ambulance, and maybe the ambulance costs. Not sure of this position, but fair to say, not a high cost.

Helicopter cost, should you be caught out offpiste, or should you have a serious on-piste injury. Talk 3000 Euros.

Even with insurance, if you go off piste, in an area not recognised by he lift company, you may be liable for helischrauber costs. Depends on Ts and Cs, we had this discussion before.

Dave, you got it in one.

I have European/German Insurance (opted for private 2 years ago)so my healthcare in the EU is covered by reciprocal agreements. I recentlz upgraded to Gold Mastercard and Visa which I have paid for everything with, that gives me bog standard travel insurance and a certain amount of third party liability. I also have seperate 3rd party liability on a special policy in German which covers the EU.

As you say, the helicopter costs are the only worry, but **** it, if I do some serious damage, 3k is the least of my worries!!!!!

Cheers for all the help guys, no problems on th first day!!

Story so far.....

8.30am

Over 70cm new snow down to resort
- 16°C at the summit (3250m)
Cloudy most of the day
29km piste open
Very busy

......and absolutely fantastic )

Was shattered by 3.30pm (first run at 8.30, lunch for 35 mins) so gave up and got pissed.

If anyone is ever in the TUX, stay at the Badhotel Kirchler. I decided not to slum it and paid 71 Euro a night. Best ski hotel I have ever been, 4 course dinners, massive breakfast, husge pool looking at the Glacier, bath robes, massive room with balcony......tidy barmaid )

The guy even agreed to let me check out after 4pm tomorrow!!!

Tasty.
