This does not concern me, but it is a source of imaginative amusement.
If you look through a typical UK ski brochure at US ski accomodation, the price of the hotel room presumes 4 people staying in one room, sharing two double beds.If you wish to stay in one room as a couple, there is a stiff charge. Now, we need to clarify something. If we ask for a double room in Europe we expect a room with one large bed. However, in my experience of asking the same question when travelling round the States is that you get two large, or double beds. I digress. How do American skiers view staying and sharing with their friends? Do they expect a cosy foursome every holiday? Are car keys involved? What if one of the party has been on the Guinness? I think we should be told...... Now, you need to understand I am no prude, I have shared on this basis for a couple of nights with close ski friends in Whistler, (yes, this is a Canadian question, too). Also, my OH and I have also shared an Austrian twin with the same couple in Niederau at the start of a season, until our apartment became available. This, for the benefit of our friends across the water, is basically, four people in one bed. There is a John Denver song in there somewhere. I may have the misformed impression that USA skiers are typically neo-cons. How does this hint of liberalism stack with that? Rooms are typically huge, and could easily fit two private double rooms in the same space. |

Steve, you will find there is heaps of info on J2. You can also get good accomodation propects from the listings, and good ski hire with skiset. I have used both myself, particularly skiset. Admin just needs to sort out flights and transfers, and we are all in Niederau. Ooops, sorry, Heaven. |

OK, this has become a cost/benefit calc. On the comparison that you offer, the Tirol Card is the winner. You have calculated that there is only a 2 day difference between the TC and the KAS. Presumably, the TC also can get you closer towards the Arlberg. However, the addition of the Zillertal alone is enough to justify. No point in considering the benefits of Alpbachtal because next year, they are likely to be part of a joint pass. I take it as given, that you cannot utilise the whole of the KAS benefits, as the drive down is too Saalbach/Hinterglemm and Kaprun/Pass Thurn is too far. However with the KAS, you can reasonably reach places like Fieberbrunn ~ arriving Saturday direct? Then back to N. There are a number of other small villages just within day reach. And of course there is Kitz. Reasonable area , acceptable conditions , not managed as well as N. but few places are. Also, the skiwelt has enough good quality skiing for any combination. We faced the same decision making last year, 2 people, not 3. I managed 13 non-N days skiing from the KAS. Your situation is different. |

We bought the AllStar season passes last year, taking advantage of the early booking offer. We had terrific value from them, and I guess that in your situation, you will do much better. Still a big hit, though. |

Hi Mathew. Since there is no apostrophe either before, or behind the "s" in "girlfriends", we are left to guess. Do you hav one doe-eyed lady that simpers at your every inch ~ of snow report? Or do you retain a harem of snow loving bunnies? I think we should be told!
Nooooooooo,Admin. I have set myself a progressive target of a 5% year on year reduction in time spent on J2ski. Result? ~ complete failure, more like a y-o-y increase of 20%. If you insist on going ahead with your threats, my failure will be complete. |

Admin, I have skied with many J2skiers. None of the guys, including myself, would have passed the physical for a wing-flying medical.
All of the ladies would - ) |

I respectfully suggest that Obergurgl might not be a good bet. I am going there this season. True, it is a high resort, but in 2 of the last 4 years, there has been no snow in November or December.
J2ski has one of the best filters for this kind of info search. Look at http://www.j2ski.com/snow_forecast/ Skim down the page and you can find the best conditions, by country. The green/red dots indicates the lift situation. I am off to Kaunertal on Friday. (I wish) |

I do enjoy an odd day in Auffach and in the SkiWelt. It's just not like the real thing! Paul, you are falling into the same old heightist trap ~ height is only one contributable measurable part of snow depth and quality.
