Excellent. Just what we needed.....another Niederau thread!! That should get the peasants up in arms again.

The place appears to have become a running joke on this forum, due to a couple of very polarised posters. It is the marmite of ski resorts.

I try to maintain a balanced view. I can appreciate the good and the shit parts. It's one of the oldest resorts in Austria, and was well-used by UK cheapo charter companies for "budget" beginner skiing.

It's obviously pretty crap compared to a proper resort like Ischgl, St.Anton, Courchevel, Meribel and all that proper jazz. So you cannot defend it against a "real" resort.

But it's cosy, harmless and most importantly 10 minutes down the road from Hopfgarten and the SkiWelt arena.
Snowing in Oberau next week!!!!!

Auffach had delayed opening on their website to 17th, but they appear to have brought it back to an opening on Thursday the 8th (i.e. 2 days hence).

Due to xmas dinner on Friday I won't be testing it until Saturday :-) Otherwise I would be there Thursday!!

I am guessing that Skiwelt may also amend their opening, but still showing as the 17th as I write.

Bring it on. I'll let ya all know how it is after the weekend.

Snow conditions at Christmas time, I cannot comment on, as I don't know enough about the height factor to compare.

If it comes above your knees it's good stuff.

Even Bill Cinton went to Ischgl in 2002 and he's only a little bit seedy.

Actually it is considered rather trendy amongst the Germans. It is a "schickimicki" resort. They have some awesome 5* Family Hotels and like all places the apres-ski is take it or leave it.

You are the one attempting to diss a complete ski resort because they have adult entertainment that you find morally disagreeable.

I reckon shutting churches would be more helpful myself as religion is a greater evil in the world, but I put up with that as well.
