Ski Mojos

Numpt,
I struggle with thigh burn, complaining knees and wilting stamina.

Thigh burn is an issue that I would classify as lactic acid build up. This would normally start to kick in after about 2 minutes continuous skiing. The influence is a general fitness issue. However, it is also a technique issue ~ can you relax the muscles during the turn? If so, this extends the time that you can continuously ski. I apologise if this seems a simplified approach, I take cognisance that you are an experienced skier, but you have posed the question.

Wilting stamina is, I think is tied up with the same issue. Trencher raises a good point ~ does your equipment set-up minimise your ski effort?

"Complaining knees" is too vague. Most skiers that I know have that to a varying degree, I have "managed" a knee issue for 20 years. Two people I know are skiing all winter on replacement knees.

Do your knees swell significantly at the end of each ski day? Do you feel " electric shocks" on each side of the knee? Need some specifics.

We also need a full time J2ski doctor/physio/surgeon......

There have been two threads that offer an insight.

The first was an "old gits" thread, where some of the respondents were in their 80s and 90s. My oldest ski adversary was 94, and skiing very nicely. There was also a wonderful video posted on here of a 110 year old US skier. I suggest that you and OldAndy are operating under false pretences and misleading names! On that macro-scale, you are only a squint above those in their mid 40s to 50s.

The second was a J2 thread about mojos, but being too young, I can't find it.

Lots of info and videos on google.
Ski Hire -what to look for?

I have always booked with skiset, and have always had a great service. The cost in Tignes, unlike some areas that operate a cartel type operation, seems to be variable and competitive.

Ski quality is also a function of competition, and given the power of t'internet, shops give a poor supply and service at their short term peril.

In places like Tignes that offer supply from a dozen or more sources, it is worth doing some geo-research, it may not be the best deal to choose the lowest price, only to find the shop is several bus stops distant.

FQ's point about changing skis is a good one. I frequently take advantage of this, sometimes I am only looking for a tweak. If you arrive midweek for a change, the cost to the hire shop is minimal, since the fixed costs are already covered.

Regarding the grade of ski, it is not always the case that category = lower grade. Frequently, at the end of season, this years silver ski is changed to economy ski.

Further, the average recreational skier does not challenge the life of a rental ski, and given that good renters are servicing the skis after every return, that is generally a better service record than a private ski. Rental ski failure may often be by binding mode. Having said that, I still take a spin locally on a pair of Kneissls that I pulled out of a rental skip in Soell many years ago!

That is the same journey as I do, when I do car hire. I come off at Kufstein Nord ~ but please check this yourself, I'm not paying your 120 Eu fine!

Then you follow the signs for Worgl. I guess you know your way from there.
That sounds fantastic! Have swum with dolphins in Scotland and New Zealand, (in NZ, also with Orca!) My Aussie surfing was limited to Manly.
Did meet a shark head on off Fraser Island! The water quickly turned brown, cannot remember if that was from me or the shark!
Did a 6 month round trip from Sydney, Townsville, Cairns, Normanton, Mount Isa, Tennants Creek, Alice Springs, flying doctor to Adelaide, back on the road ~ Canberra, Sydney.
Anyway, skiset are a pretty good outfit. I use them most years. You need to check out the location of which shop is located nearest to your hotel. If you are not sure ~ ask on J2!

Around the Rosenheim area, watch for signs. You can buy the vignette from service stations before you get to the border, and at the border.

Where are you headed for in the Tirol? If it isn't too far past Kufstein, you could opt for the backroads ~ still good roads, and, at peak times, not much slower.
From memory, the back road turn-off is Kufstein Nord.
