Hi
Was in samoens a couple of weeks ago..The lift is about 1k from the village but this is no problem as this is is served by a free bus that goes right round the village. The village is quite a pretty little place with lots of shops and bars and a couple of small supermarkets...the skiing is great and I would definitely get the full lift pass but for the beginners I would get the cheapest as there are plenty of runs for them to go at(these are at the top of the gondola that goes from the village in about 6 minutes) and it is much more interesting in Samoens than in Flaine...and cheaper to eat in, but it is still not cheap....they do know how to charge..If you are hiring skis/boots do it on-line beforehand as it in MUCH cheaper.if you are going self catering take as much as you can...but if you have transport there are a couple of "proper" supermarkets out of town. I would go again As to Snow conditions at Easter ...don't know I await more posts |

In was in central London last night and it was blizzard but decided to chance it back to Sheffield at midnight ...got back at 3am not much snow then but I too liked the 'gritting in progress' I saw 1 (on the other carriageway)in 140 miles....
and smirnoff_skier I can see from my window there is a fair covering up at Ringinglow If you feel like the exercise |

I also bought my skis from skiwear4les and can't praise their service highly enough ...their technician sorted out a binding problem over the phone and helped me no end and they furnished copy documents by return

how old are the foot-beds maybe they have changed slightly with usage..I wait for more informed opinions!

have you got low arches (flat feet) ? Its where your ankle is in the boot not the padding..custom foot-bed to correct could be the solution...but I am sure CEM will be along to say I'm wrong...but I had the same problem when I had to hire in January (my own boots went awol) and raising the heel within the boot was a less painful solution

why not ski in the manner in which you are most comfortable ...does it matter if your skis are together or if you ski in today's fashion ...so long as you enjoy sliding down the hill...if your like me I always wanted to wedel down the mountain but ended up skiing like Desperate Dan!
Personally I would go for long GS skis but then I am a piste skier ps A couple of weeks ago I saw loads of instructors in Flaine leading their charges down the mountain with their skis locked together ...but then they are French! |
