Agree with Pablo, we await Trencher as the J2 main active racer. I am not a racer, but as a young WS, did race in the local Tirol league races ~ and this gives me absolutely zero qualification to comment on race technique. But that has never held me back before, sooooo.....
It appears to me that racers, ideally, would maintain 100% edge contact, ie, carve. Given terrain changes, speed, and consequent inertial effects, there is a percentage of time when the skis are not on the snow ~ evidently not carving. Also, the use of the term "skidding", is relatively recent. At one time it was termed "rear edge control". It is a partial side slipping skill, allowing speed control. There should be nothing derogatory about it. It is just another bit of ski skill to add to the inventory. Moving on to the non-racing aspect, carving is fine on a easy to moderate piste and then race course. When the terrain changes to steep, mogul, deep snow, then technique has to change. So that's all straightforward then. |

Trencher is spot on. This IS a friendly forum, not the students union. Just edit the comment, and, as you were.
I do have some further aspects of boot design that I would like to raise, and I was an engineering designer, (with two patents). Awaiting the edit. |

Hitching is good fun, and you mostly get to meet interesting people. Can be tricky if you have skis, though.

Alex, done, but as I comment, you do not make clear if we should be addressing ski boots in general, or one's own ski boots. They would have different responses.

Swingbeep, you really whetted the interest with the Freemotion - a one clip boot. BUT - as far as I can tell, it is not a rear entry boot.
My Raichle are entering their 26th season, but I open them really wide, slide the foot in, and operate just one clip. OK, the soles are b*ggered..... Way to go. |

Aha, Trencher. I knew if I kept my one-clip Reichles, that one day, they would once again be ahead of the boot race!

One of the few days I had my camera, with a season ski-bum, halfway down the Standard, an off-pister in Niederau. He was pleading for help, but I just took a moment......

Already am first reserved for Niederau, Vail and Aspen for next year, the latter two with free accomodation. Have also become friendly with a US lawyer who has a large chalet in Steamboat Springs. Utah would be an overstretch just now, but I do want to go there. |
