Having skiied for many seasons with the Disability lads, and their athletes and ski people, I'm strongly inclined to have a go at this. I had planned to do the Five Peaks Challenge in early March, but nae snow-gar.
I can raise a team of six from the Village People, but this would almost certainly lead to an adverse alchohol intake. I can also raise a team from my family, including two sons who both think they are hot shots, and two stylish ladies. The sixth member might cause an issue, though....... ![]() |

A cam helmet, but with a tiny surface levelled on/off switch ~ could not be operated with gloves, it was never used in anger.
My K2 Merlins have a piezzo electric light just north of the toe bindings ~ gave out the tiniest of lights when the ski bent. Skiing with my twosons this season, when one of them kept following our day progress, speed, distance, altitude. After a couple of hours, he realised that he was trying to beat every parameter on the app, rather than enjoying the day. (Much like your lift partner, Pav). I think the crunch time came when I lead them both down an unmarked run which just kept getting steeper and narrower. At the bottom, they both had big grins on their faces, and I didn't see that mobile phone again that day...... |

Damn, I feel so inadequate. My Honda ride on is 10HP or 16Hp depending on which page you read, but only 101cm cut. Still I have an acre. And it does look out onto a hill that I can ski on....
Biggest PITA is the grass. What do you do with 5/10 cu m of grass each week? Usefully, this has taken me away from Tennis club organisation, membership renewal, revision of ball bounce testing at the clubhouse, my programme for getting the 16 year olds onto their first steps into coaching. Also watched a dozen ski vids, answered FB comments mostly from Niederau. Watched my own vids just to check my stick action, in view of the recent stick alert, at ease. Checked J2ski accomodation for a friend who has complicated New Year ski demands. I think that just about does it, wibble back to skiing in a few paragraphs....... Now, where is the Shiraz?....... |

A couple of points on spring snow.
Ski right on the edge of the run. This is an area that many skiers avoid, hence the snow and terrain level remain in the best relative condition. And then, if you can do it, or are prepared to try it, instead of trying to power through the turns, hence taking the slush hits on your knees, ~ try downward unweighting. Approaching a turn, sit down and forward, plant the stick near to the tip of the ski, make the transition with the knees, and then push the skis away round the turn. The main advantage is that the turn is more fluid, and there is very little shock ~ because by pushing the skis away, you are controlling the pressure onto the snow. |
