Skiing with a 3 year old

Have you looked at using a company like Esprit? Not used them ourselves but they specialise in ski holidays for families, so you'd be in a chalet with other kids. They tend to feed the kids first in the evening so the adults can eat together later. At 3 your daughter will need mixed activities, not just skiing, like Lilywhite said. Our friends introduced their daughter to skiing at Les Carroz. She had lessons in the mornings, and her parents went skiing on their own, then they were together in the afternoons doing stuff like tobogganing and building snowmen.

So would I

Really enjoyed reading your report Marie. Glad you enjoyed yourselves despite the lack of snow. I hope you and your family get to ski again.
Bardonecchia half term

According to info that I found on the internet, Italian schools don't have a half term in Feb. As far as I can tell, they aren't having a break until the last week in April. UK half term is 3rd week in Feb, and French and German school half terms span the whole of Feb.

I saw a very comprehensive guide to the European school holidays but it's on another ski forum so I daren't put the link up here. However, if you Google it you'll find it, that's how I found it
Sorry Mr Admin hope I'm not going to get put on the naughty step.

What would happen if you booked from Monday, but missed Monday because you were 'sick'. If you turned up on the Tuesday would the instructor turn you away?

A main key issue is the ground temperature on the mountain. The top two ft of ground needs to lose it's summer temperature, and deplete to a winter level. At this time of year, it matters not so much that there may still be sunny days, the angle of the sun is slanted to the ground, particularly on North facing slopes.

However, sunny days means cold, starry, frosty nights. A month of this allows the frost to go deep into the ground.

On the other hand, an early blanket of snow provides insulation against the normal effects of frosty nights, ie the ground cannot leak a temperature gradation.

It can be worse than this, in that the warm ground melts a layer of adjacent snow, thereby creating an unstable slab ~ which can avalanche. Many of the worst avalanches have been at the start of the season.

Well said, Mr Mac
