Thompson are as good a charter airline as I have flown with. Modern planes (apart from a couple of old 757's which have been refurbed), leather seats with reasonable legroom, decent food (Aldo Zilli).....I had nothing but good experiences with them. They now own the old First Choice fleet as well, although they have binned a lot of their older planes.

I have heard good things about Thompsons as well. Went twice last year on Thomas Cook holidays, no probs at all, great flights, good meals and superb accomodation. But unfortunately their prices are way up this year. Thompsons not that much cheaper but they do throw in extra's like free car hire, towels, food hampers etc and we got the deals we were happy with, so we will see.
I have two flights booked later on in the year both with Thompson this time. I must accept that budget airlines have budget prices. I have looked at the alternative if I want to go back to Lapland. Travel Finnair, 2 stops, 8hrs travel time and twice as much as the holiday normally costs, so thats that option out the window.
I whinged about that flight because of basic things that were very wrong and felt that they should have been addressed. But I did'nt feel unsafe, well maybe I worried that the other side of the window might fall out  Hubby thought I might throw a nervous tiz, as he puts it, so said I should be glad that the Captain cancelled the flight because of safety issues and that at no point would he put his life at risk, let alone all of us. I just feel that flights are a lot of money and small discomforts should have been dealt with.
Oh and I did add to the minor exploding sounds on that flight, I had a bag of crisps in my handbag, which blew up to exploding point, made a helluva mess, now I know why they only serve pringles not crisps on board
bandit wrote:Rose, this is kind of topical and pertinent. I'm flying on Saturday...on BA....on a "wet lease" apparently. The plane is supplied by Jet2!!!

I'll report back on my experience

Oh Dear, make sure you wear shorts and t shirt and dont eat the apples. Hope all goes well. Oh and doing worry about minor explosions its only the paint bubbles bursting

Two blokes skiing on a mountain and one bloke says to the other 'where did you get those new ski's',
first bloke says 'well I was skiing up here yesterday and this woman comes along, unclips her ski's, takes all her clothes off and says,'Take whatever you want'
Second bloke says 'good choice mate, the clothes would never have fitted you any-way'.

Tony_H wrote:Rose, have you written to the tour op/airline/governing body about the standard of this? I know you said it was bad, but I didnt realise it was THAT bad.....!!!!

We have dealt with TO who to be fair have been very good. They had a lot of complaints re: that flight alone. So they agreed to either refund our money in full for the 2nd holiday, although n othing for the first holiday. Or we can leave the money with them and have either another ski holiday or a Summer holiday. As for the Aviation board they say rigourous tests are done on all planes so therefore was deemed to be safe.
The problem for me is getting the time off work to fit in another ski holiday. I could have had either last week or this week off but unfortunately I am in the middle of Jury Service, which is expected to go into a third weeks, so thats out for me. I will probably save it for an extra Summer holiday.
I am quite cross as for years because of my fear of flying I did,nt go any-whereI have come such a long way in overcoming it, its a shame that just that one flight has made me feel a bit anxious again
