Hi Webbski I know it is a bit late for a reply but we are now looking at Ishgl for this seasons trip. would you be forthcoming with the hotel information? Also, daughter number two will be snowboarding this year - is Ishgl good for beginners as I have promised her she can board instead of ski (she thinks its cooler and wants the soft boots!!!!) thanks Carol |

Hi guys
summer is coming to an end so it is time to start thinking about where we are going in Feb!! I have rebooked the same hotel as last year in Kitzbuhel for a couple of weeks but we would like to stay on mountain somewhere nearby (my daughter will be with her school class again in Kitz so have to stay near to pick her up at the end of the week) Does anyone know of any catered chalets in the surrounding areas - on mountain. My younger kids are all now up to skiing just about anything but we would still like to put them into ski school and my daughter wants to try snow boarding this year too as i promised her once she could side edge on her wake board she could learn to snowboard!!! (We are all avid waterskiers and wakeboarders in summer - which is all year over here in Abu Dhabi ) Therefore we would need a snowboarding school nearby. All help greatly appreciated. It would be nice to go somewhere different!!!! Great to back on the site again, I can see me wasting a lot of time while I am at work over the next couple of months Carol |

Hi guys
we go to Kitzbuhel every year and love it. One of the main reasons is our childrens school take the kids there before half term so we get to go for two weeks so we are already there to pick them up when the rest of the school goes back to UAE. The kids then spend the second week with us. My children have all learned to ski there and we have stayed at a few different places. We have never had a problem with lack of snow and this year skiied all the way back to our hotel every night ( a decent red run though) We do tend to prefer to ski Kitzbuhler Horn because of the nice long runs for the kids and less people. The queues getting on the main gondola can be horrific at half term too on the Kitzbuhel side of the mountain. The nightlife is there if you want it but with 3 kids the most we do is walk into town for a few Jaegermeisters and gluweins before dinner at Chizzos, an outside bar in the pedestrian area (with heaters) great music too as the barman is also a dj and does his own mixes. The shopping is great, my first stop is always at Prader for a new something or other and the kids always need new gloves every year. We are taking friend with us this year and only one of them is a skier. The hubby and 2 kids will be in ski school which we have found very good for our kids. All in all I have thought about staying elsewhere but always end up back in Kitzbuhel. This year we did spend a first great week in Niederau with jan at the Auhof, great place too, as it was close to Kitzbuhel for us to pick up our daughter. To stop waffling on: Never had a problem with snow in the last four years Plenty of beginners and intermediate runs Good restaurants, on and off mountain, shopping, entertainment for the kids Acommodation for all budgets Downside is make sure you map where you are staying as some accom can be a bit too far to walk in boots, though the Hahnenkamm gondola has storage Don't go race week unless you are a downhill race fan - that would be the only time I would avoid it Go see for yourself |

Hi Johnski, we are still considering going back to Austria for Easter. Can you tell me which hotel you stayed in and location to the lifts etc? What did you mean by not much skiing ab ove 2500m?? thanks |

We have been skiing Kitz for the last 5 years and love it. My kids all learned to ski there and the oldest is now nearly 8. It is a great place for us as we normally put the kids into ski school for a few days and then they ski the rest of the week with us. This year we had two weeks and our eldest (12) skiied with us the whole time and took great delight in showing up dad I(who is a good skiier) on the black runs. Lots of nice cruisy reds and blues too which is what I normally stick to. My 7 year old does the reds with no problem at all with me as they are generally very wide runs If you stay in a half board hotel or self cater you do not need to get involved with the nightlife. Kitz is a bit upmarket so not much of the rowdy crowd anyway. We take the kids into town before dinner for a gluwein and Jaegermeister at Chizzo's (outside bar in the main pedestrian area) they get a lemonade of course - and that is about as ;far as our nightlife goes. We are normally too tired at the end of the day for anything else anyway. Go for it!!!!!!! |

Hi caron-a I have been doing a lot of research on Obergurgl and you are right - it is not cheap. The best I can do is 400 euros per night for the five of us. A bit out of my budget as we have just got back from 2 weeks in Austria. Might have to wait until next year I think :( anyone got any ideas? |
