I asked all the cosmetic consultants at work if there are any oil based moisturisers and foundation and they could,nt find any.
Do you think its possible my normal stuff will freeze and cause me problems. I just can not go without my slap.

Hi RoseR

I totaly agree with you here though I tend to tone it down a bit for the slopes.

I wear Clarins 40+ moisturising sunscreen (made to go under makeup) with Estee Lauder tinted moisturiser over the top. Dust on a bit of bronzer on the cheeks, waterproof mascara and a nice SPF lipgloss (am at work, cant remember the name of it but will post details later) and off I go. Lipgloss is applied every hour or so to keep the sun off my lips (so I say )

This gives me a healthy, sporty unmadeup look but still defines the face.

Nice to have some girly chat for a change :-)

karen72 wrote:thanks Dave. I wasnt thinking of buying lunch at the Alpenhof as we are self catering I was thinking more along the lines of making them a sandwich (with the credit crunch and all! lol) I might splash out and take them to lunch one day.

I suppose I am a bit of a control freak. I am nervous about just going off and enjoying myself while the kids are somewhere on a mountain slope. Hubby is in the beginner classes too (although I dont suppose I will feel the need to check on him, after all he is a big boy lol) I think it must be a woman thing, or maybe its just a "me" thing! I think I am a bit odd lol. I am sure I will feel different when I get there but it is hard to think about at the minute without having the benifit of knowing the area like the back of your hand like you do. I would be discreet about spying on them lol.

Hi Karen72

It is definately a 'mum' thing - I feel the same. This will be our third year skiing with the kids (my youngest is 6 and oldest is 11) and we still find out where they are at lunchtime from the ski school instructors and meet up with them a few times during the week. On the other hand, now that we are a bit more relaxed about leaving them, hubby and I really enjoy this time out and partake of some very nice lunches with a few wines and beers on the mountain (we go to Kitzbuhel) I am sure I ski much better in the afternoons

We slways make sure we are back to collect them at 4.00. Last year my eldest two ended up going on a ski safari to the Salzburg border with their instructor and did not get back until 6.00 in the evening. They had to catch the bus back but it was all they talked about for ages. The instructor had rung us to ask if it was okay to take them that far across the mountains and delivered them safely to our hotel where all four of the kids were staying.

Us mums will never get over our fear factor no matter how old our kids are (so my mum in law tells me) so just get out there and enjoy it. I am going to this year!!!

I have no access to a BOSU ball, so I use a wobble cushion to do the same exercise :D

Thanks for all these tips guys - can you explain this exercise in more details as I do not know what a BOSU ball or wobble cushion is?

thx again

cem wrote:just remember shape is everything, it is as important as size, a boot with too much voluke will allow your foot to slide around side to side wich is almost as bad as front to back.

1 make sure the shop shell checks the boot....12-25mm [dependant on your fit preference]behind the heel toe tickling the front of the shell....3-6mm side to side motion with your foot centred in the shell.

2 footbeds are worth having to stabilize your foot off the peg may be fine custom may be required let the fitter and your foot decide

more soon

Thanks cem,

After reading the other thread about ski boot fitting I was getting all worried about just going into a ski shop while we are there and perhaps I should go to a specialist. This is our 3rd time to Kitzbuhel and I did not feel that the staff paid enough attention to fitting the boots (I stood watching them last year)

I am an upper intermediate skiier who only returned to skiing 3 years ago after a 10 year absence (busy having children!!) Now the children all ski we want to spend more time on the slopes so hence the need for my own ski boots again. I do suffer terribly (always have when wearing ski boots, roller blades, ice skates etc) with cramps and burning and have been known to almost take off my boots while on the chairlift the pain is so bad. Have tried everything, unbuckling every time I am on a lift, removing boots ever 2 hours to stretch out my feet, big boots, small boots you name it , Iv'e tried it. Luckily I have an undertanding husband who puts up with it!!

Hopefully I can get some boots fitted properly

thx again

Ski Boot Fitting in Austria

Hi to all

I have been reading a thread (the locked one!!!)on ski boot fitting and was hoping to get some help. I live in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (think ski Dubai) and will be trveling to Kitzbuhel with OH and kids this year again for our annual ski trip. There is absolutely nowhere here I can buy ski boots and I have been hiring them for the past couple of years but do not want agony again this year with my toes going numb and cramping!!!!! Never seems to bother my husbands feet?

I would like to purchase a pair of ski boots and have them fitted while there. Does anyone know of a good boot shop in Kitzbuhel or do I have to go to these guys below (saw it on another forum)

When am I an "Old Codger"?
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 57 Replies
Well guys I am just about to turn 50 but with a 6 year old a 9 year old and an eleven year old I just have to stay fit to keepup with them as they are all avid skiers/boarders. (I tell people I had a life BC - Before Children!!) It is all in the mind (and the knees) just enjoy it and forget about 'old codgers' class!
Hi Mr Nice

I am returning to Kitzbuhel this year with my 6 9 and 11 year olds. They have all learned to ski in Kitzbuhel (all over half term breaks too!!) and we all love it. It may be a bit hard to get a cheap booking now though as everyone I know, including us, that goes there books in August/September.

If cost is not an issue try the Kaiserhoff or Tennerhoff (Tennerhoff is on the Kitz Horn side of town but the open spaces at the top of Kitzbuheler Horn are great for my 6 year old!).

We will spend a few days at the Tennerhoff when we arrive as we are there for 10 days and it is mainly Saturday to Saturday bookings.

Have a geat time with your kids anyway
Hi to all, we will be returning to Kitzbuhel this year (2 adults 3 kids) and I am looking for some advice as to how we can tour all over the mountains around Kitzbuhel. We stuck mainly to the Kitzbuhel area runs last year as we had a 5 year old in ski school and did not want to go too far away. This year he is really confident so I would like to check out the surrounding areas during our week there.

Does anyone have any ideas? We are an intermediate and advanced skier (who is not as fit as he used to be!!) I know we can hire a Tour Guide but would like to do it at our leisure (and cost!)

thanks
