Ski Boots suitable for a high instep
Started by User in Ski Hardware, 14 Replies
Couldn't agree with Bandit more after my experience with getting boots fitted properly!

Seem to have it sorted now, but after 2 ski trips and 2 previous pairs being unsuitable after "proper fitting", in fact sat here with new pair on trying to bed them in for begining of Feb, not been able to get to MK due to work, Weather and other things to do it properly!

If you are skiing in 5 weeks you really need to be seen ASAP, by anyone with Physio qualifications and not a GP.

Dependant on what the injury is, which to me seems more groin area than sciatic problem (But what do I know) that can take 3 to 4 weeks dependent on what you have done and you will need excercise to strengthen ASAP.

A few days rest will probably sort it out anyway, but just doesn't feel like that right now, but it would be useful to know what it is to exercise that area properly to prevent it happening while you are away too.

There is a good Physio site www.physioroom.com that you can see if anything matches what you have, though the danger is you will have everything on there and the rehabilitaion times are always about 6 weeks!!

Hope you find out soon and get sorted.
Ski boots - Pain?

That's the crux of the matter. If you don't know what you are looking for, you have to be asked the right questions, and give thoughtful answers. Even then, I don't think anyone really has an idea of what a good fit is, until they have experienced some bad fits, and have a little knowledge of ski boots. Just because you don't get any pain, doesn't mean you have a good fit.

I think that sums it up better!

In my case it wasn't pain, just the sensation after a full day in the boots that they were too big (the liners reallly bedding in) and having to clip down tighter and tighter, eventually you have to stop else the blood supply would have been cut off, pins and needles effect.

My comfort here is that I brought them at a shop fairly local to me, they have a sensible returns/fitting policy and have eventually ended up with a pair of boots that will hopefully be okay for a number of years.

In the future I will be far more aware of what I need or what to experience than 3 years ago when a bit more of a novice than I am now.

Pain or no pain, would rather be on the slopes somewhere rather than at work like now, it is amazing how ibuprofen helps!

I am no GP or Physio but have suffered goodness knows how many injuries playing football over the years and I used to get similar pain but this was from an abducter muscle in the groin area.

Sciatica usually starts from the small of the back through the buttocks and right down the back of one or even both legs if unfortunate, a bit like have a very tight hamstring muscle.

Have used an osteopath in the past for ailments, although very gentle manipulation did the trick every time.

funny you should say that because mr-a and I both got our boots from that shop. I was first, had a fantastic experience with a guy who really seemed to know what he was talking about and I've never had a problem with them. A few months later my other half went on my recommendation. I was a little aware of what was going on and it didn't seem great compared to what I'd experienced, but what do I know?

In resort a few months later, mr-a had a lot of pain. He tried to get them fixed there but to no avail.

When we got back we went to the same shop and a lady who seemed to know her stuff spent about an hour and a half fixing his boots at no extra cost.

We left the shop very satisfied and he's not had a problem with them since.

Moral of the story - it depends who you get

Caron-a, think you are right the last lad that served me seemed to understand immediately what my issue was and boots changed and sorted in no time.

I guess the other thing is we really don't know what our boots should feel like until its too late and what is on your feet just feels wrong and you can't do anything about it until you return home.

Still a few visits to MK in the next few weeks and then Westendorf 6th Feb and I'll start the process all over again, though from the little use I have had so far from this pair, I think I have cracked it this time as I felt more at one with the ski's beneath me.

Got my boots Ellis Brigham, Milton Keynes - Not great experience really on 3rd pair of boots in 3 years.

First 2 fittings I had boots that were too big so now on pair of boots number 3 that are 1 size smaller than where I started.

After taking the first pair of boots back the guy who served me then said boots were wrong size, wrong shape and not suitable for me at all and when he looked who had served me it was one of the managers!!

The positive thing I can say is that they refitted and changed boots without any fuss or cost to me at all which when you are not 100% sure if the boots are correct until you are using them hard on the slopes, that is great but not whilst you are away and not getting on with the boots!

Basingstoke was hell!

Was there for a meeting and had to get back to Oxford, got in at 11:45pm. Started to try to get back about 2pm, gave up and waited until anout 9pm before trying again.

Love the snow just not being stuck so far away from, though not much in Oxford when I got back so a little disappointed that I couldn't build the anual snowman with the kids in the morning!!!
The cost of skiing

AllyG wrote:And, back to the subject of this thread - the cost of our ski-ing holiday. The apartment is costing 1000 euros (about £943 at 1.06) for 3 people, and the train costs £300 each, I can't remember what the transfer bus is - around 20 euros each I think. Lift pass, ski and boot hire and full day lessons for me totals £462. So my personal total is about £1100. But I will have to pay for my daughter as well, so I will have to pay about £2200. Plus of course those little extras one forgets about until you look at the bank statement. The food I don't count, because I would be shopping and eating at home, even though it costs a bit more in mountain supermarkets.

Ahhhhh Couchevel!!!!!

1 timble of hot chocholate and a crepe = €12 X 5 for kids and 4 coffees €5 each for 4 adults and we have a nice bill of €80.

Stay away from piste side cafe's!!!!

Couple of minutes walk in the forum across the road in 1850 much cheaper for snacks.

Also for some reason, local Spar shuts between about 11am and 2pm, some scam there too me thinks.

Apart from that great place to ski
