My folks are moving back to Bonnie Scotland (Oban) and Glenshee is the closest, is it worth visiting them next winter?

Just posting for info as I may head down for a day this weekend for a run out, but if you are "Absolute Beginners" and can fly into Basel on low cost carriers this deal could be bargain of the century.....

The area is quite small and quite low, but they have plenty of snow 1.2m (I was on it with 35cm in November) and geared towards skiers rather than boarders, but there is a good mix of blue, red and black.

5 day ski pass, and 4 nights for 165 € is phenomenal considering what it costs for a day at a dry slope or snowdome.
Start from the Penken Gondola, get off and make the short walk past the apres ski bars etc. then get on the 3er Penken lift to the top of the Penken, here you have the choice of going down on the lift (as I said I have seen loads of people doing this in Myrhofen) or take the blue 2 onto the blue 20 down to the base of the Horberg where you will find 4 lifts, one of them is the 8 man taking you onto the best practice blue ( number 8 )
Between the Finkenberg Almbahn and the Rastkogelbahn there is the summit Penkenjoch. They are not directly linked other than back down the backside of the Penken and up the 150er Tux. I wouldn't recommend the backside of the Penken to beginners, especially if it is cold and dark as it can be icy. However use the lift system to go down to go back up again if you want....I have seen more of this in Mayrhofen than any other resort I have been to thinking about it, and I have done it myself on certain days when visibility was down to about 3mm with night-vision goggles.

Don't let this panic you by any means, Mayrhofen is a great resort and I spent only my second week there and came on in leaps and bounds.

Blue 8 from the park to the Horberg is a great run for beginners and it has a great and fast 8 seater lift on it. From there the resort is your oyster.

Don't be fooled either by the apparent size of Mayrhofen. Its big enough, but a relatively good skier/boarder can do the whole thing from the Tux Glacier all the way to the Horberg comprehensively in 6 days.

Have fun, you couldn't have picked a better resort!!
