Not being able to drive puts a crimp on an otherwise damn fine plan!!

Who can spot the partial quote?

Now we are going to have the battle titles "Which resort is best not to ski at? Mayrhofen or Niederau?"

Corrected )

I am of course joking, get her on here and let her talk to other people with similar history. I frightened the hell out of myself on my 6th day ever, was close to never putting my board back on again.

Be gentle and introduce her to here, some of us are close to being normal.

Surely you can get her interested in skiing as a vehicle for her photography.. I await the Niederau crowd with their recommendations :D

You just had to didn't you?? )

I would imagine there would be a lot of stopping and starting of the chairs if they did let pedestrians use them which wouldn't be popular with the skiers.

Most ski resorts have cable cars that will be more suitable - in La Plagne there were plenty of non-skiers going up to the glacier and of course they are designed to be used in both directions.

I think in the whole this true, certainly the lift gadgies are happier to let you go down on a lift during the quite times. However I think in resorts with modern infrastructures the operators have caught on that not everyone wants to ski, and preventing a family from enjoying the mountain together whether skiing or not is counter commercial. Therefore you do see more modern instalations with pedestrian access.
Mike, we have been discussing this in another thread.

BTW, the Hintertux is top to bottom on cable cars, 3 in a row upt to about 3260m. Perfect for non skiers to get up to take some pics etc.

So how far are we talking and is it do-able on trains?

from where? If you mean Germany I'd probably forget it, I looked at going to Aviemore from Switzerland and it was ridiculous both for time and cost. I know coming back I gave a lift to a couple of guys to Edinburgh because the weekend service was so appalling.

From Oban?
